My Dream Amp is a Nightmare to Register...

So a few days after I bought my Marshall half stack, I went on Marshall's web site and proceeded to register my stuff - entered my S/N and e-mail address, clicked "next" and was advised that someone would get in touch w/ me to confirm registration.

2 weeks later, having not heard from the good people at Marshall, I contacted Support, and got a reply a few days later that my case had been forwarded to their USA service center. Why was there no option for me to contact the US service center in the first place, I have no idea. There is ONE support link on their web site. But anyway...

2 more weeks and I had not heard of them, so I contacted the lady who's replied the first time. Only, this time, I didn't get a reply.

My patience wearing thin, I contacted them via pm on Facebook. In a matter of hours, I was provided with an e-mail address.

Finally! Or so I thought...

After providing my info, I was advised that those S/N were for USA and needed to be registered in America, and that my info would be forwarded there. Not that there is any option to actually register a US S/N on Marshall's web site, mind you.

It's been two days and I've not heard from them. And honestly, I'm not expecting to.

Love my amp, but Marshall really need a lesson in customer support...

Everything will be handled by the store that sold you the amp. Contact them and tell them about the issue. The sales receipt and serial number are what you need for the warranty.

The best lesson is a Consumer Protection Agency complaint (available online) ... it comes from your state's Attorney General, and watch all that stupid paperwork, and management doing nothing disappear in 3 seconds and you get a call on it. Save the paperwork next to the Stack's sale paperwork, and voila ...

Yeah. The IP address for the site I am accessing (104.28.6.236) re-directs to a Cloudflare site after a no direct IP access permitted notice. Apparently Marshallamps.com (accessed from US) is hiding behind another network and if you are not in the US you will not connect via that network. You can try the VPN thing.

Everything I am seeing right now, reeks of fake and that includes the AMP with a cardboard cover so you can't see that it was made in _______ and is only worth 32 cents!

I'm sorry ... for the money spent this needs some real punching ... not just not getting around. And the vendor not helping is worse ... they know they sold a bum product because they got it from the ACME company and it was tested by the Road Runner!

Can't believe how ... submissive, we are getting, and not handling things with legal recourse that costs you nothing ... the Consumer Protection Agency for each state is a free service! Go ahead ... get ripped off because you did not have a "valid" registration, and they won't replace the 3 cent crap part!

Re: My Dream Amp is a Nightmare to Register... 2016/01/23 13:21:56 (permalink)
The amp was made in Vietnam, as I knew it was. I wasn't in the market for an amp hand wired in California.

I had a deal on it, but even at the regular price, it is not overpriced if you consider the market. And I'm not going to debate economy here at this time.

I bought it from Guitar Center because I had that deal and I wasn't patient enough to wait. Otherwise I could have ordered from Sweetwater, whose service is top notch.

It sounds exactly like I expected and it is exactly what I wanted. And then some. Rehearsals and gigs with our bands can now begin.

Nobody has submitted to anything. I'm following up w/ Marshall. It's a pain in the arse, but no one said anything about just giving up. Furthermore, in the days of social media, customers have a few interesting options.

I'm just a very pragmatic person. At times, anyway.

If you like it, there's nothing more to be said. Virtually everything is made off shore today and the dollar is king.

I hand make my stuff with premium parts and nobody will pay for it. My parts alone are usually more than buying an offshore amp. That's why I don't make any money building them.

If someday I'm playing and making enough money to justify it, I'll order a custom one from you.

Though to be honest, my tastes are pretty generic. I've played with crappy gear for so long that I'm happy with a little Les Paul Studio and my Marshall DSL.

I do have a bunch of friends who spend their time mod'ing their old Marshalls and customizing everything. I couldn't even tell if I have the ear to even appreciate that. I guess I could. I tend to focus on the shortcomings in my playing more than I do being picky about gear. I'm a "in that ballpark" type of guy.

Oh, I do. If there's one thing I learned working for Workforce Management, it's that you need to CYA. (That and that you should never underestimate people's ability to misunderstand even the clearest, most basic set of instruction.)

Nice cab. Do you like it? I'd opt for a straight cab, only because they are what Kossoff used. I'm sure either one would finish off my hearing, lol. I'd love to have one of the purple cabs that came with the V/M, or a 4x12 with 25w G12Ms (may be the same) or maybe some comparable EMI. There is always something to want... I've never had a 4x12. I have a stereo 2x12 that I wired to be switchable to 2x12 mono and several 1x12 cabs.. I think everyone should have a 4x12 at least once but I have absolutely no need for it. I guess it's OK, my forst real amp was a Silvertone 1485, all tube with 6x10s. They are unique amps, two channels and two output transformers, one for each input so plugging in to both really does a LOT. It was stolen from a club, but I still have the footswitch!
In 1970 I had it in the back of my second VW vanagon with 3x10s hooked to each side of a Motorola 8-track cassette player. You'd be astounded how loud 8wpc can be through 6 tens. The tape hiss would scare you... lol. I miss that amp. I'm glad you got what you like!
These are the good years Rain.

Obviously, if I could I'd probably go for a full stack - but I can't justify that, and for most venues where I'm likely to play, my half stack is already more than sufficient.

At home, I'm running it in Triode mode (down to 50 Watt) and I've not yet pushed the volume to 1. I'm not one to play needlessly loud, even though like every guitar player I like to feel the power once in a while. But in my home studio, I value clarity over everything else.

However, rehearsals with our band should begin soon, and I'll have the opportunity to push it then and there.
