<RESOLVED> Updated from Kontakt 5 to 5.5.2 using Service Center... OK then,,,

Tomorrow I am going to try to fix this. I can delete Kontakt or I can install again, I have the disks. So I can delete and re-install or I can just reinstall.

OK then.. just in case, I did a back of all my VST folders onto my D drive then I put my Kontakt 5 installation disk in. I extracted using windows file manager (I think that's what its called). It re-installed with no problem. When it got to the libraries I cancelled the install and voila! Everything was back right. I updated from My Account on the NI site and am now running 5.5.2.880 with the stand alone app and no problems. I had some install problems with a couple of Bolder Sounds instruments but that is fixed too. Happy! BTW I didn't delete anything, just reinstalled.
Hope this helps someone.

No problem here...look on your desktop, the install program creates
an Icon...and right click and go to open file location...

If you installed into a different location, then your current shortcut
won't work....just a possibility...

I'll try that. I have no idea what I did when I bought it and did the initial install. I probably just let Kontakt do what it wanted to do. My stand-alone icon changed from the Kontakt icon to blank white. I deleted it but it's still in my trashcan. I did notice a NI or Kontakt folder on my desktop but in all the mess of trying to figure this and the Bolder Sounds out I wasn't sure if I put it there or NI did. I've moved a couple of things trying to fix this stuff so  I might should do a system restore, IDK. It doesn't really matter. I can reinstall Kontakt and I burned the Bolder .rar files to a DVD-R as soon as I downloaded them.

Thanks Larry, I'll check that folder out!

Just login to your NI account, download the latest Kontakt update manually, and install.
Unless you manually moved some program installation folders around, that generally takes care of DLL's and EXE's that "disappeared" after a Service Center update, without having to do any drastic reinstalls on your computer.

Also, desktop folders are usually just shortcuts, not the actual program files, so you could manually recreate the Kontakt program shortcut from the Kontakt program installation folder.

The Service Center is broken. I've contacted them and received some lame responses. I've stopped using it and update directly from my download area in my account.

Peace!

I tried that, SC cannot find the Kontakt application after I used the Service Center to update to 5.5.2.880
I have the boxed version and I have not yet used Kontakt in a project.
I am thinking that maybe I should just delete Kontakt (if I can find it), leave the libraries, re-install using the disks, then try updating without using the SC.
This has been WAY too much trouble and has taken WAY too much time. IDK. I probably wont get back to it until either tomorrow PM or Tuesday. I hope this isn't a regular thing with NI.

Re: Updated from Kontakt 5 to 5.5.2 using Service Center... Kontakt Stand Alone is now GON 2016/01/24 20:33:32 (permalink)
First things first -

DO NOT just delete Kontakt (or any other Windows program, for that matter) without first trying to run the uninstaller first!
Deleting a program folder without running the uninstaller first can lead to all kinds of run-time errors!
If you can't find a Kontakt folder in your start menu "programs" menu, check the "Programs..." app in control panel, and if Kontakt shows up, uninstall from there.  I also recommend rebooting after uninstalling apps to give Windows a chance to make a "fresh start".

Although for some reason you have had issues with your installation, I think you'll find that in general, the entire Native Instruments Komplete suite is very reliable, and generally the Service Center does a pretty good job of managing updates.  There are a few hiccups for some folks now and then, but I think you'll find they are the exception, instead of the norm.
I started with Komplete 8 on a Windows 7 PC, ran it on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, and just recently cross-graded to Komplete 10  - and threw in Komplete Select and several other NI and 3rd-party libraries along the way.  In all that time, I thing I've only had to take care of Service Center hiccups maybe twice, and in both cases they were corrected by manually running the updates, as I mentioned earlier.

If you do reinstall Kontakt, I recommend you "take charge" of the installation process, and install all your libraries in a separate folder that is easy to find and monitor.  This will make it MUCH easier to deal with any libraries that need to be added manually, or if you have to deal with missing samples or other related issues down the road. Also, recommend you get the factory Kontakt installation working properly first, with all Service Center updates, before adding in any third-party libraries.

As far as your initial Kontakt installation files are concerned -
You can download any purchased NI programs and libraries - and all the latest updates - at anytime by logging in to your account on the Native Instruments web site.  So, if you have a problem with your backup set, a fresh copy is readily available for the download.

I'm not familiar with the library you plan to add, but if it is one that has to be manually added (i.e., doesn't show up as an instrument in the Kontakt browser window), it's fairly easy to add it to the Kontakt Quick Load menu - Google and YouTube can show you the way!

Good Luck, and don't give up -
I think you'll find that once you get past these initial unusual hiccups, Kontakt is a VERY nice sampler, with a HUGE library available (from NI and elsewhere online) to add to its potential.

Randy

Well, yes. That is what I meant. I always use the uninstall utility. The reboot is a good idea, I wouldn't have done that unless prompted.

Yes. Kontakt 5 is on my C drive. The libraries and other samples are on my E drive. D drive is projects and associated audio.

Thank you!
I appreciate any and all help

This comes up about every 2 months or so. I don't know how to get anything back but I do know NEVER install and update by clicking the install button in service center. Install from the folder NI puts on your desktop. It never has happened to me installing from there.

I'm never using the Service Center again until they can confirm that they have fixed the issue whereby it was deleting plugins instead of updating them. Deleting your entire software - the ULTIMATE bug.

Agreed sharke.. Their customer service was pretty dismissive when I brought this to their attention.. Love their software, seriously dislike their customer support.

Peace!

I have upgrade issues on 4 machines with NI installers.  Do not remove any of the software.  In your account you can only install and download updates.  If you remove Kontakt the upgrade installer will not work.

Installing my updates always fail.  For some reason my only fix is to use windows installer cleanup utility to remove NI software and then the updates work.  I posted this on their forum and two of us seem to have these issues.

Installers aren't rocket science. I've never understood the mentality of software developers who create the most amazing tools and then screw up something so basic.
