WHY NO PLAYBACK??? Sounds change when recording

 
Hello all,
I still can't understand WHY I cannot get any sound when playing back what I have recorded.  I decided to go all midi because I have a midi keyboard and do audio vocals. Still can't get it to work together in sync.  Also, it keeps changing the sound I have assigned to a track to default back to PIANO. I selected TTS1 but cannot change the sounds I want for each track. Should I use something else? I'd be happy to stop and read any documentation necessary to learn this. I figure I can get some help from the veteran users on here who have probably gone through similar frustrations.  I KNOW this should be quite simple but can't understand why I can only get but so far with this. Is it the connections? Something else, maybe?
Using:
Motif8, Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, M-AudioStudioPro4 desktop speakers and Music Creator 6 (Touch).  Btw, I don't have a touch screen and I'm wondering if I bought the wrong MC version, is this causing problems?  (exhausted right now, could use a little help) thx y'all.
