Same here. I replaced a compressor on a Lead Vox track with two of NI's VC 76 compressors in series, configured like the video. I was just starting to work with it when I ran out of time. Need to get back to it today. But, in general, the concept of working in sprints instead of marathons (an analogy I used ALL the time back when I was a consultant) seems totally appropriate when mixing -- a little improvement here, a little improvement there -- will get you to a better end result faster. Notice I did not say "perfect." There is no perfect, only good enough. The problem is knowing when good is good enough. Lots of variables. That's where the engineering comes in. More importantly, that's where art also comes in. IMO, a "good" mix engineer is one who hears, feels and experiences music as art, has the technical chops AND is able to seamlessly bridge the two, creating a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. I've got things hooked up as in the video. Now I need to develop a feel for the pair working together. I'd like to try this with Waves Puigchild 660 compressor.

I just purchased (IK Vintage Compressor bundle) and began using the white LA2A on vocals with the Black 76 on my acoustic guitars. I'm also going to try the Black pair for vocals (and probably guitars?) on my next project. Or experiment with the pair together. I wonder if there is any general rule on when to use what? As in when did engineers use the white LA2A versus the Black 76 and on what? Just how did studios use them? For that matter, when to use the Fairchild 670 (drum bus? master bus?) I find it very interesting to see this kind of information!
