Allow "Region Label" in track view

I often work with venues that have recorded live shows, where several individuals may share a mic over the course of the show. Through automation, I can deal with those changes in needed EQ, panning, etc, but currently must rely on a note file or queue sheet for which singer is on which channel for a particular song.  Using markers for such things is not an option, in part because the marker marks a point in the performance for ALL tracks.  In a mix with 90 tracks, a marker is not appropriate at all for this, especially with shows having short transitions, the markers already overlap in wide views.  So, markers don't help here.

What I'm asking for is a way to highlight a region of the audio view (as you would for a region effect) to apply a text label.  The label could appear in the same way it does at the beginning of the audio view where it gives the name of an imported wav file, or, for region effects.  Placing the text at the bottom edge of the audio image would keep it separate from the other info. And, even better, a choice of color or shading for that region.

I hope you'll consider it.  I would find this VERY helpful.  When mixing a two hour show with 2 dozen singers who pass around mics, keeping things straight is a chore.  It would be so much simpler with a feature like this.

thanks,
thom

I guess you already know that, but... it is possible to rename any clip and give it special color. If you split the clip, derived clips will get the same name and colors. So if you split the track into different clips, name them according to the singer and set corresponding colors, you more or less can see "the regions". Or you can use empty clips on separate (muted) "guide" track, placed next to your multi-person recording.

I did not know you could already apply a name.  I'm talking about text that would actually appear on the region.  Does that happen?  Typically, with these long shows, I don't like to do much cutting of clips, because there's no consistent way to do it that doesn't create a big mess.  But I'll give this a try later today.  Don't recall seeing a rename option.  Perhaps I need to pay closer attention.  Thanks for the tip!

Not sure what you're looking at. I don't find any of those options for clips in Sonar Platinum.  I've been on Sonar since X1 and don't recall seeing any options for naming or coloring clips.  What's the menu/option choices to get there?

Look in the Clip tab of the track inspector

Thanks to scook for the info.  That's what I would like, except it would be a lot less clumsy if you could do it by simply highlighting a region of audio (without having to cut it) and type in the changes you want.  I'll be able to apply this to the big project I'm currently on, thanks to your advice, but still hoping the developers will consider this idea.
