How do I get rid of empty space at the beginning of tracks?
I have a bunch of MIDI songs that have one measure or fraction of a measure of space before any data begins. How do I remove that space? Selecting the space and hitting the Delete button does nothing in this case.

You don't want to do that.
Always leave a bit of space at the beginning of your projects so that Sonar has a chance to "breathe" before being inundated with midi data.
If you're concerned about what your mixdowns will contain, just do a "Select All" (Ctrl + a) then swipe across the time ruler at the top to select the exact range you want to bounce/export

Bristol_Jonesey, I always learn something from your posts but I'm confused with the above statement. Software has to "breathe"? What if I have the cursor in a part of a song where all 37 tracks are inundated with MIDI/Audio data and with all kinds of effects thrown in. I'm not a software guy although I have written C programs to control Electronic Test Equipment. (GPIB) Can you unconfuse me? :-) Walt

Select all the tracks and highlight all the clips in track view with Ctrl+A.
Now grab one of the first clips and drag it to where you want it to start. Because everything is selected, the whole lot will follow.
Craig Anderton showed a way to move the flags too, but I forget how.

Hmmm. What I've described only seems to be apparent when the Now time is at 01:01:000 and your Midi data starts at exactly the same time. Like yourself, I do a LOT of midi work these days and constantly engage the transport at various parts of the project, for many different reasons and without this phenomenon manifesting itself. Maybe it's a hangover from the old days when our computers couldn't keep up. It's likely to be more of an issue with audio as you cannot guarantee that a musician or vocalist will hit the first note EXACTLY on the beat and if they are a fraction early, the first note will be truncated.

This will not move Tempo changes, Markers, Meter/Key changes. Best way would be to select just the range you want to delete and choose "Delete Hole", but in order for this to work there MUST be data "in the hole" for the delete to take effect.

I don't know about breathing songs, but I do know that many midi files send GM controller, volume and patch change information prior to the start of the song. If you delete what seems like blank space, you may be also deleting this initial controller information.

If you plan to ultimately export audio, you can just trim the ends of the resulting audio file.

That makes sense. I always leave at least 2 measures in front of a song with a temporary stick count in. Thanks. Walt

Pure blank space looks different on the screen than simply blank measures or parts of measures, so I'm safe. :-)
