Back in the (home) studio...

After a few months taking care of my lovely lady after her surgery and just spending time together.

Friday night I'd noticed that Superior Drummer crashed Pro Tools every time I tried to add it to a session, so I figured maybe it was time to check for updates. The only things I've kept up to date are Logic and Pro Tools. All the rest dated from a year back or so.

So while I was at it, I also updated all my IK products.

As a result of the time I spent updating software yesterday afternoon, Superior Drummer now crashes both Logic and Pro Tools and Sampletank crashes Logic and crashes Pro Tools during the initial start up plug-in scan.

The funny thing is that at the end of my evening session, I was going to add an instance of Waves Truverb to my project when I realized that I never got around to installing it after Waves offered it for free last Black Friday.  I hadn't updated my Waves stuff for a year and I was worried that I'd have to jump through hoops and potentially mess up with a working config just to install a freebie.

But last night, I thought I might as well do it. I logged into my account, downloaded the new app and clicked install. Done. And THAT was supposed to be the problematic one...

Now comes the fun part - following up on those problems with IK and TT. :/

Remember when we had actual media we could po into a drive? Those were the days. There have been a lot of PT updates and I'm sure the boys can help you get sorted with TT and SD. My first question would be "what did apple do to mess up my software?" I have a few friends with Apple stuff and they claim the Apple updates are always messing with them.

    Bon chance, mon ami.

    Merci, John.

As for Apple, indeed, the last few incarnations of OSX and its software often seem to mess more things up than they fix. Things really changed in the last few years - since Jobs passed away. I'm seriously considering reverting to Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro, the OS it came with. It was, and by far, the best OS I've worked with.

As for my studio computer, it was a given when I bought it in October 2014 that I wouldn't update anything on it, and wouldn't use it to run software that would require me to upgrade to a new OS. It will only be used to run things that are more or less contemporary to it.

So besides Pro Tools and Logic, nothing has been updated, not iTunes, not iThis and iThat, and practically nothing else was even installed on it, besides those few 3rd party plug-ins. There's still almost 900GB free on that 1TB drive.

And maybe my problems come from there - I'm still running an "old" OS. But whatever the case, I'm not upgrading that OS - I'd be willing to give up on third party plugs before I do so. Worst case, I'll run them on another machine.

Yeah I hear you Rain ,

Doing upgrades can be very time consuming and I never know what I may have to fix after doing an upgrade .

On the Windows side of things I have spent a lot of time updating recently ...
I took a Win 10 machine and updated a couple of versions of Splat ,and some heavily used plugs ...
All of that was a virgin fresh install ...

After rolling w that for a while I upgraded my main computer from Win 8 to Win 10  a couple of weeks ago ..
that one was an in place upgrade and I still have to go from Lexington to Manchester ....

My Mackbook has Snow Leopard on it and I'm pretty happy about that ...
Dimension Pro and a lot of Cakewalk stuff runs pretty good in that OS ...
Logic 9 runs like a Champ in there so does Mixbus 3 ....other than that My i Mac is still on Lion .
I still want to get myself a brand  new Mackbook Pro 15 or an  i Mac ...when the funds permit ..

Oh Yeah , Life is Good .
The internet is nothing more than a glorified real time cartoon we all star in.
    I play a "Gibson " R 8 Les Paul Cherry Sunburst .
The Love of my Life is an American Bulldog Named Duke . I'm currently running Cakewalk By BandLab as my DAW .
