Two layers of console view .....
Hi all, I've been using dual monitor widescreens for some time, so spreading the console view across both has allowed access to most (if not all) channels in a given project. Now I'm setting up to use Sonar on a laptop for remote recordings. My question: Is it possible to setup the console view in 2 strips; one above the other. I want to monitor each channel's signal, but with the laptop I don't have the real estate to see more than about 15 channels (in narrow mode). Without scrolling, that is. I'll be recording while running FOH and would like to be able to glance at the laptop and see what's happening. I recently saw a picture of this. I believe it was Reaper. I don't care to purchase and learn another DAW, if there is some way to do this in Sonar. Anyone have any thoughts? TIA

Hey Joel. What interface will you be using to record? Wouldn't the software for that be a better place to monitor and 'quick check' your live recording levels, particularly since that is where your preamp control would be? I use an rme fireface and an x32, and both have software utilities that allow me to monitor all I/O on a single laptop screen. I would imagine most interfaces would do the same.

I'd set up a custom Track View in a screenset. View your tracks vertically instead of horizontally. You can fit a lot of information in that space

Bruce, I'll be coming straight off an Allen & Heath QU32 digital board via USB. I just purchased the mixer and am still figuring out how everything works.

The Strips pull-down menu allows you to select the types of strips that will show very quickly, and in Narrow form you can see 24 or more across the width of your display. Does that, perhaps combined with Screensets, give you enough flexibility? God Bless The European Union (as long as it lasts).

I finally have Sonar installed on my laptop. I think I can get enough narrow console strips showing at once, to make this work. Thank you all for your input. Much appreciated.

Good news Joel:) I believe you can also record multitrack direct to HDD with the QU32 as well, though I havent tried it myself. Good luck with the recording!
