Song: One Summer Day

I did this song originally in Guitar Studio II about 3 years ago and yesterday I decided it needed a little freshining in Home Studio 2004. I changed the verb and delay and used a different mastering technique from my original version.

I would welcome any comments, thanks

    Bill:

Great song played with a lot of feeling! Love the double solos! It reminds me of another song but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it!

    Bill,

If you get it right, you almost get the feeling the you've heard a song somewhere before. That it is a old standard. You may have done this.

    Ed,

I don't recall ever hearing an old standard that is the same as my melody...I'm 52 and have heard a few but not all. Do you know the title?

thanks for the listen and comment

    Hey Bill,
I really enjoyed this! You have some solid guitar chops bro..... I was really digin' the groove you layed down. The doubled solo was outstanding! Thanks for sharing.

    Bill,

Let me rephrase my comment. It has the qualities of an old standard classic. Done very well and a catchiness to it that old standards have. Did not mean to say that it was a knock-off, but that it is good enuff to be a great classic. IMHO

I hope that came out better.

    Cool stuff!

I like the guitar tones. They don't sound like a POD. How did you record them?

I seldom find myself saying this, but the lead guitar sounds a little loud in the mix (seems to get quieter later in the song).

    Nice composition.

    Mike,

On this tune I used my Les Paul Standard through a Tech 21 Sansamp. The Sansamp doesn't offer the flexiblity of a POD, but the tone you get from it sounds pretty good.

Thanks for the listen and comments. Whether its lead vocals or lead anything, placement in the mix is a tough call. I'll give it another listen.

    thanks again

Love the guitar tone. Les Paul into a small Fender (Blues Junior, maybe), I'd surmise. The layering is real nice.

Drums fit perfectly. Live drums or samples. If samples, what are they.

    Solo at 2:10 is outstanding.

    Very nice job.

    M,

Thanks for the comments. No amp, just the Sansamp but you were right on with the Les Paul. The drums are from a Yamaha MU80 GM box...I like the drum sounds but the cymbals leave a lot to be desired.

    Hi Bill,

Very nice tune, and a pretty clean mix.
The only thing I don't like is the open hihat sound at the double guitar main theme. For me it sounds too uniform and synthetic for this kind of handmade music.

It seems like you spend pretty much time into drum programming. And you know how to use your guitar. Good work.

Even though I like this song very much, IMHO it does not reach your 'no regrets' by far. That is one of my absolute favourites from the people of this forum. You should post that one.

Nice tune, Bill. It does have an old school feel to it. I especially liked the double leads.... different.

    Good job.

    Melf,

Thanks for the comments..you have a very good ear re the drums! This tune was the first one that I put together when I got back into playing. I originaly tracked it on 4 track cassette using a Yammy RX17 drum machine for drums. When I got my computer together and re-recorded the song, I just dumped the drum file from the RX17 into Cake and went on from there. No Regrets was done fairly recently and your are right, I did spend a lot of time trying to make it more realistic and drummer like.
One of these days I'll revisit the drum track on One Summer Day and let you know.

    take care,
    BD

    Chaz,

Thanks very much for the listen and comments. I haven't been on this forum much but I have heard some of your work and respect your expertise. I'm a big Duane Allman fan. He was one of the most expressive guitarists of his time...it was pretty rare for him to hit a straight on note in a solo..it was always a bend into the note or a bend out of the note. His slide work was outstanding as well...I have never even tried to play slide.

    take care,
    BD

    Yeah, I have to agree.

Slide is a different creature altogether. I have try playing it , but just have not kept up with it. Maybe someday I will try picking it uip again.
