Free up C Drive

As all Sonor X3 Producer files default to C drive, I'm nearing about 70% capacity and need to free up space. As WAV files are huge I moved about 8gb of folders and all 'stem' files to both an external drive and Dropbox. PC is HP 500 Pavilion w/ 8GB RAM and 2T hard rive of which about 500GB are available.  I'm assuming accessing and re downloading from either source in the future is a snap? This is the first time I've done some major 'house cleaning' with files so any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Hi. I have moved all Cakewalk Content to a separate disc. This frees up some space. Copy files to new destination (make sure everything went ok), delete old files. Change path in SONAR under Preferences (P), file, Folder Location.
All the best.

Very cool, Thanks Ken. Thinking about dropping in an SSD solely for recording projects. Thoughts? If so, how do I move only CW projects, content, ect and then default with each session?

if you used "per project folders" then just move all of the folders under the "Cakewalk Projects" folder into a "Cakewalk Projects" folder on the new drive.

you'll also want to open the preferences in sonar and show it where to put new projects.

Generally, there won't be much benefit in putting your projects on an SSD.......where it really shines is when using it as your OS/software drive and also (if you can swing it) a large SSD to stream all your sound samples.

If I upgrade to Platinum Edition and install on either a an external 500g SSD Im assuming all will be right with the world? As for existing Projects and Content simply move to new drive or change in Preferences?

I have found it pretty easy to have SONAR find my stuff when it is on another drive by simply  locating it in SONAR's media browser VIA the file tree ,  once it is found i hit the save icon ....
SONAR will remember where it is from that point on ...

Better to have your OS and programs on the same drive especially if wanting to get maximum benefit from your SSD.
