Need help editing out silence from timeline in sonar platinum.

I recently upgraded to Platinum from x3.  I have never learned how to edit out dead spots (silence spots) on the timeline in say a 25 min. piece of music,  imported from a live performance.  I need coaching from a cakewalk tv episode or anywhere.???  Thanks!!!
