Have you checked your routing in RME Total mix? Are your outputs panned correctly there?

What's your signal path, i.e. does the Babyface go straight to powered monitors, or do you have a stereo amplifier that feeds passive monitors?  All audio devices can have some level of crosstalk that can cause one channel to bleed into the other.  I don't know much about the Babyface, so as Bruce points out, it may be a good idea to check Total mix to ensure that there is not something in your mixing/routing within the interface going on.

Make sure the playback outputs from Sonar/windows in Total mix are set correctly (either set to Stereo or assigned to two mono outputs panned hard L/R).  Also check that you haven't pushed the Mono button in the Total Mix main output section.

Hi , ok I have tried everything and the only way I can get audio coming out the left headphone only is by using the Windows audio / asio ! I have tried everything and can't do it !

Maybee I am really tired and coffeeeed to somewhere and back again but can some one just make 2 things clear for me , because maybe I'm lost in it all ?

    Anyone please confirm following

    1) if I have a single mono audio track > then pan it 50% left >what should I hear through the right speaker <

    2) if I have a single mono audio track > panned 100% left > what should I hear through the right speaker <

If anyone can confirm both these questions for me because I think I should hear nothing in the right speaker ?
But I am thinking I'm wrong

    Thanks

    2) Nothing in right speaker.

    1) the relative level between left and right channel is determined by the pan law you have set in Sonar.

There are several ways the relative volumes can vary when you turn the pan control, eg:
    i) -3db,  100% left and 100% right uses just 1 speaker,   so the centre position is adjusted down by 3db to match the overall volume level.  The result is the signal does not vary in amplitude as the pan position is changed. This is considered the "normal" for a pan control.

ii) Balance,  at centre position, both outputs are 100%. Turn the control left turns down the right hand channel..  This is normal for a stereo channel.

iii) Many other combinations of preset levels and curves, some specific to certain tasks, beyond the scope of this post.

This is the reason that mixes often sound different when exported to different systems, especially where hardware mixers have been used where the pan law cannot be changed (or even determined).  Different pan laws result in different levels.

If you're setting the pan to 100% left and still hearing signal in the right channel then you either have an FX send that is returning signal to the right channel somewhere else (a bus) or the RME Totalmix channels are not panned 100% left/right.

It's also worth checking that the Interleave for the track is set to mono - look in your Track Inspector

Do you have a send on that track to a reverb bus for example? If so, when you pan completely left or right, you'll still hear the reverb send on both channels.

    Peace!

    2) Nothing in right speaker.

i closed my main project > opened a new one > added one audio track with sample > converted to mono > output master > master output -AS1 stereo > babyface - AS1 mono Hard Left As2 mono Hard Right .

Nothing else in the New platinum project > hit play > hard panned Left > only right headphone connected to my ear> very audible sound coming through right headphone  > found this http://forum.cakewalk.com/100-Panning-Issue-m3109378-p2.aspx#3367618 ,didn't help ,though i am absolutely positive i didn't have this problem a month or 2 ago !! i did update the baby face. can i roll back on the babyface ,is it possible?

i disconnected the baby face and ran the new project through asio4all /win audio and hard panned either way is silent !

can anyone confirm that has a baby face with driver 1089 and hardware revision  223 , that when they hard pan the other speaker is silent ?? or is this a baby face fact .

I searched on RME babyface problem pan and there were a lot of hits. Maybe some of the threads apply to your situation?
