VST not obeying MIDI controllers

Not sure if this is a CW problem or Roland, but if anyone can help it would be appreciated. :)
 
I'm working with .mid files that have been saved as .cwp files while I update and improve them. When I open a file, the Sound Canvas VA loads with it.  However, when I play the file, patch changes and other controllers aren't recognized, and I have to play around with SCVA until it works.  Various tinkering can work, but it's random, and sometimes I even have to delete SVCA from the Synth rack and re-add it.  This is all very annoying, of course.
 
Any ideas how to fix this?
