Pro Channel issues
Trying to fix my crashes in X3, Cakewalk Tech guys suggested I remove all C++ iterations and reinstall them, which I did. But now my Pro Channel strip is messed up. I get "load failure" text at the bottom of the strip, previously saved projects are missing the U76 comp and when I try to add anything to the strip I get instant crash. I have both the 32 and 64bit installed. The channel strip appears to be normal in 32bit but is messed up on 64 which is the version I prefer to work in. Any ideas?

Have you reinstalled X3 ? That's what I'd do before anything else. Sounds to me like you may be missing a library.

Is what you refer to as 'U76' the PC76 Prochannel compressor ? If so, do you have "PCS-NukeCM.dll" in "[your Cakewalk folder]\Shared Utilities\Internal" ? Your problem sounds like more than just a missing PC plugin, but its absence may indicate a bad reinstallation.

Yep that's the one, the main compressor loaded by default. I downloaded all the installation files from my account from the website.

But is the dll present ? Sorry to repeat, it's just that if I found a plugin to be missing in a project I'd first check to see if it was where it was supposed to be on disk.

sounds like it's dependent on one of the C++ distros you uninstalled?

Won't be back at the studio till later, I'll look for the missing .dll, I may have to download the multiple C++'s again and try reinstalling...

Well I have PCS-NukeCM.dll where it's supposed to be. Tried reinstalling again, and am getting permission errors when it's wrapping up. It can't register plugins, i.e. "unable to register DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3." I tried googling that error and tried all the suggested solutions, including some on this forum to no avail. Here we go again, spending hours and hours diagnosing software problems instead of making music......really, really, frustrated and tired of this...

Contact support. It really sounds like this issue relates to a 64-bit program and OS trying to deal with 32-bit plug-ins. Support can probably make sure you have correct install paths and such so that when running 64 bit, SONAR finds the 64-bit plugs and when running 32-bit, SONAR finds the 32-bit plugs. I highly, highly recommend running 64-bit programs and plug-ins in a 64-bit environment, use 64-bit plug-ins as much as possible, and if you have to use 32-bit plug-ins, do so by bridging within a 64-bit environment.

Sorry if this is redundant, but you should install as administrator if you aren't already. I'd then take a look at permission levels on the destination folders, seeing that the installer brought it up. You're not out of disk space ? It looks like your system is confused (to not say corrupted, yet). Have you ever had Sonar working properly on your system? If so, which version ?

Paul P -- good points. Also worth mentioning that anti-virus programs should be disabled while installing, as they might interpret system changes as something unwelcome.

Thanks for the suggestions, yep, ran as administrator, checked permissions, enabled all, plenty of back up space. Weird thing is I've never had these issues during a reinstall before. This is a brand new problem caused by trying to fix other problems, i.e crashes.

X3 has been up and running on my system since X3 first came out. It installed flawlessly 1st time, never an installation issue. Then I would go through periods of it running smoothly, followed by periods of it crashing unexpectedly at different times. This was fixed by installing updates, patches etc, till the most recent round of crashes. It took tech support quite some time to diagnose the crashes and when they did they suggested I uninstall all C++ versions and reinstall them. Once I did that, these brand new problems started of missing components in Pro Channel. So I tried doing a reinstall and now I can't even do that.

I'd still recommend contacting support. dbmm001 Thanks for the suggestions, yep, ran as administrator, checked permissions, enabled all, plenty of back up space. - Did you turn off all anti-virus/malware programs while installing?
- What operating system are you using?
- Did Cake support do a remote desktop operation?
- In what order did you install the 32- and 64-bit versions?
- Did you apply the updates to X3 before or after uninstalling/re-installing the other libraries?
- Has your OS changed since you first installed X3? If you're still running the same OS as when X3 came out, it's probably gotten pretty scrambled...
I'd still recommend trying support again. If all else fails, do an incident fix with Obedia.com. There's clearly something wrong and it would seem that worse case, you could be advised how to wipe your system of all traces of both versions of SONAR, then follow the recommended re-install procedure. It's times like this that removable drives are worth their weight in gold. I tend to think that if you did a clean OS install and then installed SONAR, things would work as desired. The current situations seems like it might be "system dependencies roulette." I generally advise against re-installing SONAR except as a last resort. The only time I've needed to re-install SONAR is when switching over to a new drive.

I should add that I didn't re-install the 32 version because it's operating normally, unfortunately, some of my vst's only run 64 so I can't really use 32 any more.

Hello, You mentioned the upgrade to win 10. Is that when you noticed this happening. I have found that win 10(home) can do some odd things. The most recent: I had internet disabled in device manager, win 10 enabled this so it could do it's update. Guess next time I will have to unplug cat 6. Good thing the comp isn't wireless. Scary scenario. I did have a problem once where I had too much junk in the caboose. Totally took comp back to scratch. Reloaded win 7, did all the updates to all attached and then reloaded Sonar. Now my machine is to 'Smokin'. Now internet only used for updates and studio downloads. No more 'wandering' around for me. FWIW.
