Turning knobs in VST plugins

First, thanks for all the help from the forum so far, I've just made the switch from Pro Tools and it's going smoothly.

When I use a plugin, for example bx_console in Sonar - if a knob is set to 12'o'clock, and I click the knob in the viscinity of the 3'o'clock position, the knob value jumps to 3'o'clock.

In Pro Tools, if i click somewhere on the knob, the value stays where it was. I can then drag it with the mouse until the knob reaches the desired position. It doesn't just "jump" automatically. This makes finetuning easier.
Is there anyway to achieve this with setting etc. in Sonar?

Thanks!

I think I've always been able to adjust the knobs as accurately as I've wanted just by holding the mouse button down
(as well as clicking on a certain position to make it jump).
I'm not at my DAW now so can't verify. Also, IIRC, it's often VST dependant (?). The knobs of some VSTs are really
difficult to operate.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

I think this is plug-in dependent - although it might be part of the Pro Tools spec (requirement) that states that this is how the GUI has to behave.

Windows 7 x64 SP1
SONAR x86/x64

Intel Q6600/8GB
MOTU UltraliteMk3 (USB/ASIO)
Edirol PCR300

Well you might be right that this is VST dependent, and maybe there is differences between the AAX and VST versions of specific plugins. Thanks.

Hi. I can confirm that it is plugin dependent. My UAD plugins behave exactly the way you explain in your OP.
All the best.

Thanks! I have contacted Plugin Alliance to see what they have to say. After looking at it again, it's their plugins I'm experiencing this with.

I think I've found a solution for PA plugins - pressing ALT while turning the knobs makes the plugins behave like I prefer.
