What would your Dear Abby , " Music as a Career " letter read like ?

Dear Abby,

I'm writing this letter about a very good friend of mine that I've know since he rescued me from the animal shelter  .

He keeps telling me that if he keeps on practicing his guitar each and every day he still may make it as a musician some day ..
He has been playing the guitar since he was 6 years old and he still hasn't made it after all those years of doing it ..

All this musical practice he is doing is driving me crazy . All I want to do is take long walks in the park , nap away on my couch , eat snacks and lick where my dogie balls used to be ...not listen to scales and fingerboard exercises all day long .

Anyway , I've heard that the Music Business was Dog eat Dog as far as a money making business went ...

Dear Abby , Is my best friend just wasting his time "Waiting for His Musical Ship to Come In  " ?

thanks in advance ,

Duke

    Dear Duke-

Just put up with it for now, and remember that he tastes like chicken.

(Oops....I wrote a reply to the letter. Oh well. I'm not trying to make any money in music now anyway.)

IMHO , the responses to the letters are always the super funny thing  ...
I'm pretty sure  if I wrote that to the real Dear Abby , used my real name and lied about my age by saying it was 29 ..
She would have told me to give it up ( Music ) and go back to school so I could get a real job

    Dear Duke,

You're friend is delusional. But make no mistake, all musicians are delusional.

Be happy he's not busking all day and leaving you cramped up in that musky old apartment (I assume he lives in an apartment, unless it's a van down by the river).

Give him one more year and then decide if it's time for you to go back to the "shelter" where at least you can see your old friends (or the ones still alive).

    Hi,

This may not sound right, but here goes. This is a "take" on a famous mystic and his words in one of his books, btw!

    Dear Duke

Deciding to be a musician or an artist, is not the same as wanting to be a fireman, or a teacher or a mechanic, when you grow up. Learning and being a part of the arts, can be the most frustrating of life events, and a good source of bad moments that will likely take a toll on your personal life. On the other side, it can also be very exciting, when/if things click and you find yourself with the veritable 15 minutes.

There is, however, one thing I would like to state. This is not about you wanting to be this or that or this or that. This is all about who you are and what you are, and what you love and want to do, and not look back in your life and regret that you did not take that step and you spend your time kicking the dog and the kids now because of it. This is about ... you ... look in the mirror and make the call ... if you can't, you are already dead inside anyway, whether killed by mom and dad, or girlfriend or wife does not matter ... you're already dead.

And if you're dead, trying to become a "musician" or an "artist", is the worst thing you can try. You might even consider washing dishes at a restaurant. (grin!!! smile !!!)

Good luck in your endeavor as a musician. You will need it! But I would not suggest my child to follow a music career if they were not 1000% in it, and at that point I would help the best I can and know how!

    With care and luck

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

All of that said, if you're already dead, then you probably can become a famous zombie actor in Hollywood!  They're all the rage right now.

    Hi,

Very nice Kenny ... don't worry about leaving something behind ... it will be there and you might not even know it!

As for leaving the stage ... I guess I will be one of those that will die with his boots on, so to speak. I don't see how I can 'escape" myself and leave the stage ... it would kill me. However, I do not think of it as a "stage" at all.
