PDF readers - I'm trying to exorcise & replace Adobe

I updated my Adobe stuff today and Reader XI got replaced with DC, with zero reasonable control over updates.  I promptly uninstalled Reader DC.  I'm sick of getting auto-everything'd to death and sucked into clouds I don't want to be in.

Anyway ... I installed Foxit reader.  Anybody been thru this already?  Have you found a replacement you really like?

Libre will write PDF files, but the only way to view them in Libre is with the Draw app.  How dumb is that?

I tried a couple of replacements a few years ago...and grudgingly went back to Adobe Reader.

The other readers may be free, but I got really tired of the regular attempts to get me to buy the PDF editor.

No problem.  I like it so far.  The only nag I see is if I open it directly.  I have no problem with that though as they're just filling empty space.  Besides, 99.978632579% of the time, I click files directly to view them ;)

It's good to see somebody else is using it and liking it.  Thanks

The three most popular browsers (Chrome, Firefox and IE) all have built-in support for viewing PDFs. This means that you don’t even have to download the file or install any additional software for checking out any PDFs you come across.

In fact, the PDF doesn’t need to be online to be viewed within the browser. If it’s saved to your computer, you can still view it just fine. Just right click the file, selectOpen with and then choose your browser (click Choose default program… if you always want PDFs to open this way).

I use Foxit, usually inside FireFox. It seems to be the best alternative without security issues associates with PDFs.

I tried with Libre, OO's brother, and even though Write makes perfect PDFs, it won't display them.  Which does OO display PDFs with?

Thanks.  I really appreciate experience based recommendations ...

So far Foxit is doing what it should do and nothing more

Hi,

I find Adobe redundant and boring ... you can do the same thing in Word or in my favorite ... Open Office.

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

Which specific OO app do PDF files display in?  In Libre, they get routed to Draw.

Either way, MS Office, Libre and OO seem a bit heavyweight for reading PDFs to me.

Foxit is the best replacement I have used so far. For my purposes, it has streamlined dealing with "secure files" where you can't combine etc.; I "print" the target pdf with Foxit which essentially strips the security features of the file, then I can do what ever I do with other unsecured files, works a treat.

After a few days use, I can't think of a reason to move on from Foxit.  I like it better than the Adobe reader it's replacing.
