Universal Audio Apollo Twin USB is here
Looks like it's finally here ... now we who run PC-based DAWs can use this very cool interface which comes with a starter pack of UAD plugins. Check your favorite retailer -- here's Sweetwater's listing. Warning: the UAD world can get expensive. :-) Cheers, Eddie

Guitar Center rep told me that UAD held it back from October release cause of Windows driver issues and Win10. but this has no win10 support. not really sure but it makes me want to wait a while.

UA is not known for releasing products prematurely. :-) As much as possible, they want to make sure their stuff is rock-solid before we get our grubby hands on it. I wouldn't worry about Win 10 -- official support will come eventually. Hey, did you notice the offer of extra free plugins if you buy before 3/31? Some nice ones there. Cheers, Eddie

The people I've talked with about it have been complaining about UAD and driver issues lately. Apparently they are really falling behind the competition as of late with support.

Funny that (originally a) hardware company is having these kinds of problems with hardware.

I installed my Apollo Twin USB on my Win 10 Pro x64 DAW over the weekend using one on the USB 3.0 "Superspeed" ports. I must say I am quite impressed with the performance. The Twin USB has a specific software version (v8.5.2) that only works with it. I was quite pleased that both of my existing two UAD-2 PCIe cards were also recognized and all of my available DSP (7 total SHARCS) is pooled and utilized into one cohesive UAD ecosystem. Unlike the UAD FW devices, there is no added 512 sample plug-in buffer added and LiveTrack mode is still available, if needed. Also, I really like the new Apollo Console 2.0 on Windows. SPlat is working quite nicely and as expected too! Now I do have a finely tuned and optimized DAW, so I was not surprised my Apollo Twin USB was pretty much plug and play right out of the box. The install software guided me through each step from doing a firmware update to registering the hardware on the UA website. One nice surprise, I instantly got a $647 credit in plug-in vouchers since I already own all of the promo plug-ins. Now I get to shop for some new plug-ins, but I may wait until a good sale happens and I can get more bang for the buck. Overall, very happy with my new Apollo Twin USB!

Hi Billy, Got one on order. What's the minimum round-trip latency... and smallest ASIO buffer size?

Jim Roseberry Hi Billy, Got one on order. What's the minimum round-trip latency... and smallest ASIO buffer size?
Hi Jim, The smallest buffer size is 64 samples ASIO. Both Centrance & RTL Utility confirmed 6.08ms RTL (64 samples @ 44k). But both REAPER 5 & SPlat report 8.3ms- to 8.4ms RTL respectively. So it is probably something in-between The Twin USB is sensitive to having a finely tuned DAW for the needs of real time audio processing. Fixing DPC spikes, needing to update or even downgrade certain USB 3.0 Host Controllers to a different driver version or even a BIOS update have all been reported over the last couple of days at the UAD forum as having fixed seemingly inretractable crackling issues during playback. I keep my DAW maintained have it fairly tweaked and fine tuned for real time DAW use, so I was not surprised I was able to connect and start using my Apollo Twin USB right out of the box. Cheers, Billy Buck

Well not quite officially, but UA's website does emphatically state: Apollo Twin USB Windows System CompatibilityImportant Windows Compatibility NotesWindows 10 has not yet been fully tested by Universal Audio. However, complete Apollo Twin USB compatibility testing with Windows 10 is currently underway, and initial tests have revealed no known compatibility issues. This statement applies to Apollo Twin USB software only.Win 10 is becoming more popular every day, UA has no choice but to support it.

Here is a video from Winter NAMM 2016 with UA rep Gannon Kashiva confirming UA's commitment to the Win platform (about the 2:48). I have to admit, that affable and cute as a button "Choie" from Westlake Pro Audio stole the show for me . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dy_lRyxfV6E

Forcing does not equal popular. My legacy hardware will use W7 drivers in Windows. What did these other developers do that wont make things work in W10. It's not like this OS just snuck up on everyone. I

UA is just covering their back side. Until they've collected the experience from a larger pool of Win10 users, they don't want to say emphatically that it's 100% compatible with Win10. It's rare to find a Win7/8 driver that just doesn't work with Win10. If there's an issue... it's typically the installer itself (run it in Win7/8 compatibility mode).

The Roland drivers for the V-Studio don't work in 10. Hence, why I'm looking to get something new. I can't even use the damn thing without the audio driver crashing now.

So now that a few of you guys are using this on Win10 and seemingly having good results, it's back on my list as a possible replacement. Anything more to add since you've been using it?
