Just Think Of Yourself
Here is a little social observation presented in a song. It is a little loose but I was having a bunch of fun with this one and wanted to keep a very casual style about it. I know that this is not really a Blues song but I didn't know how or where to categorize it. Anyway, I have learned a lot by participating on this forum and so comments, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks and I hope that you have fun listening. Hi Freddy I like this - very raw which suits the topic. My only crit would be that there's too much of the slap-back delay on the main vocal which (to my ears) makes the lyrics hard to hear.

Freddy, I like the guitar tones you get, especially at 1:21. I lso liked that it was a straight forward lead, not just a pyrotechnic display of wizardry. I especially love the lyrics, Sounds like a blind date gone bad? You have a nice matter of fact response to whoever that is. The mix sounds OK on my headphones, i agree a little about the effect on the vocals. But I do think this is a good song. Not over played, easy for people to relate too. Jesse Q. Screed

I LOVE this Freddy, but you know me, I'd like to hear that kick drum thump through a little more. Otherwise the vocal effects I actually dig!!

It's got the Freddy stamp all over it... Another clever and well done song, and IMO close enough to blues to qualify. Mix-wise I agree with the above - a fatter bottom and maybe a little less vocal delay (but not much) should do the trick. Maybe a little delay on the guitar solos?

Good tune - overall enjoyable. My only comment may contrasts with the other comments: I think the bass guitar could come down a bit in the mix. For me, the bass at its current level takes the focus away from the other parts.

good and gnarly... the drums sound rather canned, tho.. maybe a bit more time programming some 'weirdness' into it would help.... and tweak the snare drier.... maybe shorter on the slapback time, if you like the effect....

This has the Freddy sound to it I agree, the bottom could do with a little more weight and that echo is just a tad to much, but it is a good tune, thanks for sharing.

Hi Daryl. Thanks for the listen and feedback. I'm going to have to go back to the working file and see what I did on the vocal. On more uptempo songs I normally record vocals with a bit of verb using the Boss DD-5 box. I know that is not very bright but I just can't find a plug-in effects application that I like. I thought that I was recording it dry but maybe I did indeed use or mis-use the Boss. Thanks again for the input. Thanks Jesse. I was trying to keep this one in a more simple Rock 'n Roll style. I think that a lot of us have experienced situations where we have found ourselves not even in consideration by the Alpha personality. I appreciate your taking the time to listen and comment. Hi Tony. Thanks for the kind words. When I go back to the file to listen to the vocals, I'll try and pump up the kick a bit. Thanks again. Hey Steve. Thank you. Ya, the song is not really the Blues, and it's not really Rockabilly --- maybe the fictitious Bluesabilly genre would capture it?.!? I appreciate your feedback and will be working on the fixes. Hi Bob: In listening to this number again, I think that I am in agreement with you. The bass does tend to dominate and needs to be brought down a bit. Perhaps by adjusting the kick and EQ'ing a bit more bass (or less treble) to the mixdown, I might address some of the other suggestions (except the verb -- I'm going to have to figure that one out). Thanks for the input. Thank you Bats. There obviously must be a problem with the vocal slap-back since I have had so many comments concerning it. I appreciate your comments and I'll be working on it. Hi John. I always appreciate it when your furry ears give a listen to one of my attempts at music and I always appreciate your feedback. I'll be working on those things. Thanks again!! Hey Mark. I haven't seen you on the forum for a while. I've been looking for some Pugtones or Mark tunes! Thank you very much for the very kind and encouraging words my friend. BTW payment is in the mail. Hi Robert. Thank you. I grew up on Rockabilly, Blues, and Rock 'n Roll and just love the stuff. I had the pleasure of attending the WMNF Rockabilly Ruckus last Saturday night and am I ever humbled. Most of the Rockabilly lead guitarist had skills and chops that I will never be able to approach. Thanks again for listening and for your comments.

Nice one Freddy. Over the years you've really developed a style - a bit rock and roll/rockabilly, a bit country, a little quirky - but all your own.

Hi Freddy, Thanks for sharing your music with us. :) The few crits I have is that the balance to me seems to pull me to the left, its a bit weighted to that direction, most likely because of there is more bass on the left and not enough high to help smooth that out. Little bit more snap on the snare. Other than that good work. I like Jamesg blurb " a bit rock and roll/rockabilly, a bit country, a little quirky ". very fitting.

Hi James. Quirky ----- I have heard that before. I guess I will have to take ownership of that phrase :>) Thanks for listening and for the kind comments. Hi Russ. I haven't gotten a chance to go back and make changes to this yet (too many distractions). When I do, I'll be sure to take your comments to heart. I appreciate your suggestions and thank you for listening. It has been confirmed --- I must be quirky (lol) :>)

Liked it! Maybe loose the hihat a little bit to sound a little more rocknroll? Other than that I think its fine. The style, lyrics and singing is money. :)

Freddy , Well you certainly have your own thing going on musically it is cool .. Every time I have listened to one of your tunes it has a unique Freddy Vibe going on ... While I was listening I read some of the feedback in your thread , Yeah it's all valid ... The main thing for me is to honor your creativity and the fact that you are doing your own thing On your own terms. That's what I respect the most ...all the other stuff ain't much of a big thing to deal with all the best , Kenny

Sounds like you from the start..... Love that dirty Bass! It stands out a bit but it is very distinctive at the same time. Guitar solo mates up with the Bass perfectly. Wondering what the vocals would sound like with a little less delay. I love to use delay on vocals and find that dialing it back at judicious times is an incredibly effective way to emphasize certain phrases bringing them in your face in a subtle way and equally effective in pushing them back when the delay is dialed up. Great stuff !!!!

Freddy, I would have known this was you even if your name hadn't been attached. I don't know if you've changed the mix, but I like it as is. I like the way you have blended the blues with social commentary and created your own, unique style. Can't wait for the next one.

Hi Lasse. Thanks for the listen and for your comments. I am in the process of making some adjustments to this number (see comment below) and have made some tweeks to the drums. I haven't made any money from my songs but I sure do have a good time making them. Thanks again. Hi Kenny. Thank you very much for your kind comments. Mixing is definitely not my strong suit. I have learned a tremendous amount since participating on this forum and I appreciate the friendly help that I have received from all those that have commented -- now and the past several years. I have the most fun trying to mix up the two or three genres that are my favourites and with which I am most comfortable. Once in a while it might just work. You might also find, as do I, that every once in a while you have to wander off into a place that is not comfortable and that is fun also. Thanks again Kenny, I appreciate it. Hey Scotty. I am very glad that you liked it and thanks for listening. Thank you Bapu!! A good rhythmic number is absoflippinlutely nothing if it doesn't have that bass to push it along. Can I get an Amen!!!! Hey James and thank you very much. I have been having a heck-uv-a time with trying to correct the vocals (see comments below) but I am trying. I'll probably have to re-record them. Thanks for the listen and for commenting. Hi Bob. The dust jacket art (or whatever it is called) has mostly been obtained from on-line (e.g., google images, creative commons sites, etc.). I am using Adobe Photoshop Essentials to do the framing, titling, etc. Thanks for listening and commenting. Hi Lynn and thank you for the very kind comments. I very much appreciate it. BTW you have really posted a great number --- well done. I really like it! A Comment From Freddy: As suggested above, I have made a few tweeks to the drums, balance, etc. However, I have been driving myself crazy with the vocals. You all are very good!! I did not catch the delay/echo/reverb on the vocal until I found the working file and isolated the vocal track. I was pretty sure that I did not add any of this effect and sure enough I did not. I normally make notes on any major effect that I use and there were none. I didn't use any VST plug-in effects nor did I use my trusty Boss delay pedal. Sooo --- I am not sure what is going on. I have tried several things to get rid of it (e.g., EQ, putting on a delay FX, etc.) and nothing has worked (any ideas would be appreciated). Soooo - The only thing that I can think of is to re-record the track. This is not a big thing except for one annoying problem. This is allergy season in Florida. I have a pollen allergy to Oak and every single variety of Oak in the entire Tampa Bay area is loaded with little pollen pods. It will be a few more weeks before I get my voice back enough that I can try re-recording the vocals. This is a long way of telling you that I am not ignoring your suggestions. I am just delayed at present.
