Sonar Help Documentation - Incremental update possible?
Would it be possible (and make sense) to somehow have the Sonar Local Documentation (SonarHelp) be offered as an incremental update rather than having to download +500MB each month (in addition to the Sonar core file) !? The .exe file would check the integrity of the existing help-files and then merge the new content. I would imagine that the added data concerning the new content would be way less than 100MB?

Instead why not a feature request for language specific installers? That would get close to your 100MB target.

Aah, good one. It never crossed my mind that multiple languages are being downloaded...

I expect this is just an issue with ease of maintenance. If you just update the download copy on the server and install it by overwriting the entire old copy with the new one the coding and version management is easier. The tradeoff for simplicity is that the user pays in time (or maybe not since the incremental process has its own overhead to find and insert changes) and bandwidth. Given the other issues for the coders that may be a distraction from more valuable things.

True i guess. If scook is right about the languages though then excess data is being downloaded by each and every customer for every product......doesn't sound economic in any way. CCC has a language setting so it should be able to work with separate language-files...... Also the 'my products' page could just show the downloads for my specific language (and OS for that matter)

PDFs do not merge incrementally very well. It's possible but is difficult and would require software installed on the user's PC. Language -specific versions sounds like a good compromise.

Ah yes...pdf's. My understanding is that the pdf version of the Sonar Reference Manual is not being updated at all or at least not regularly. If that is incorrect it would be another good reason to activate a membership. The files accessed from within Sonar are chm's I think. There are some automated chm to pdf converters, but how well they handle indexing and hyperlinks I do not know. An always up to date pdf would be a valuable addition.

The current one is over a year old, last time I checked.

If you post this on the FR forum I'd vote.

The pdf and the chm are in the same installer. The chm is updated with each release.
