MASTERING

is there a reason why we can not get a mastering setup in sonar, track setup, redbook burns etc.

I've mastered quite a few projects in SONAR, especially the more complex ones that require crossfades and transitions where conventional two-track editor programs fall short. The biggest limitation for me is not being able to do a DDP export, but there are ways around that.

    You have free options
    http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/entry/free-ddp-mastering-tools-for-linux-windows-and-mac-updated

    Paid options
    http://www.sonorissoftware.com/catalog/ddp-creator-p-47.html

Or the "convoluted-Craig-is-a-perfectionist' option. I do the album assembly in SONAR with any needed tweaks, render as a single WAV file, then bring it into Studio One. This isn't a diss on Studio One's assembly page, which I do use, but I often need to do things it can't do but SONAR can. I add track markers in Studio One and export as a DDP file.

Personally I love mastering in Sonar.  Mix, then master...sweet and simple.  To make a redbook CD, which I haven't needed for a while, Cake, I'm not sure still have Pyro Audio...which is great for assembling a redbook CD, you also get the MP3 encoder, which is bad.  Or there is Soundforge, which also has a cut-down version.  I use both, but I think people need to think around the box when it comes to mastering in Sonar.  Just use it as a mix, master and bounce down tool, then create CD elsewhere...or that is my advice.

Basically I do the same thing including Pyro. I do have plenty of  options such as Studio 1 3 and Samplitude along with Soundforge 11 and CDA.

At least you're not yelling at me now John and calling me an arse lol ;)...although I might have gone a little too far yesterday in my comment about this new Lander thing. I didn't say it was a bad thing, just more bad musicians and creators will use it to create more bad music lol.

Anyway Peace.  And I've learnt how to love the bomb...Sonar that is.

To add to Craig's list I have used Hofa's plug in for creating DDP images.
Works fine for me. basically only needed if you are sending your stuff to a CD pressing plant.
Nowadays the only times I have used DDP is for small scale distributions

I do all my mixing & mastering in Sonar then export my wav for CD burning in Sony's CD Architect.

I'm amazed that we're trusted with these powerful tools without having to undergo a test of competence and taste beforehand. Maybe a state licensing agency should be created ...

This link is to make a custom DDP Player. That said are you using the DDP Plugin or Stand Alone?

I have never sent out CDs out for pressing because I only do a few and just copy CDRs.  If I do decide to get some CDs pressed, do most of the facilities require DDPs?
