"Half Speed" Mastering at Abbey Road.

I'm pretty mush half speed mysef these days.

Nice to hear snippets of 'Go Down Easy' 'Solid Air' and 'Man in The Station' by John Martyn in there. Someone's a fan.

Yes, it is interesting. I wonder if there is a list of what he has mastered at half speed. I heard some Kossoff in there. I'd be interested in a good LP. I 'ave lots of LPs and some new ones with really good sound would be pleasing. I have three, no four turntables and 3 70s Stereos, a Fisher 700, a Sansui 770, and a Pioneer SX-1010.. and a Dynakit integrated amp and tuner. I need mo betta speakers. I have matching lattice front speakers for the Sansui and I use it most. It will FILL a small room. The Dynakit and Fisher are both very good too. The Pioneer sound would fill a large room, probably run you out with the right speakers.
This makes me want to play some LPs.

I never thought about the old MONO LPs sounding better. I remember when they were marked MONO or Stereophonic.

Reminds me of the early days ... when the English version of Sgt Peppers was way better than the American version, and this was the case all the way until Dark Side of the Moon, when the "remastered" versions showed up, to my ears they sounded like the English pressings ... and on my setup (Pioneer turntable - $175, Stanton EE cartridge - $275 and ESS Heil AMT speakers - $375 each ... all this in 1976) these things sounded way better than anything else, even the CD's ... although the FM radio signals, for some reason, based on my 400 hours of Space Pirate Radio shows (1974-1982), is actually a bit better, but this is probably because FM, also played these things a RPM lower, and it often sounded heavier and better than the actual version you bought and played on any turntable. I think this was the "secret" for a lot of the earlier FM radio ... specially Southern California. Compared to the sound of KGON here in Portland or the one rock station, the older ones were considerably better sounding and cleaner. The signal today, for my ears, is a bit too washed out with soap and windex, though I admit this might just be my ears.
 
Nice stuff ... I still don't understand it ... but it is cool to see and appreciate people that love the fidelity of it all, rather than just the notes.
