mp3s are all of a sudden 13 times larger. Why?

when I export a song to mp3 the file is now 10 to 13 times larger than it used to be even though the song has fewer tracks.. Even when I bounce it to stereo that file is huge compared to my other mp3s. Did something change?

Are you sure you exported as .MP3, and not .WAV?

Are they padded with silence or is the file the correct run time just consuming more disk space than expected?

Thanks for your help! It got me looking in the right place. Still new to this. I found I had somehow pasted multiple copies of a silenced track that extended run time way out.
