Yeah, I thought it was a really good article, even for those who aren't involved in orchestration. A lot of the comments on arranging apply to all kinds of music. Great stuff IMHO.

Thanks for the article. There is a lot of good info! I will look into assigning CCs to attack and decay time. That isn't something I've tweaked much, but thinking back I'll bet it could have helped in a couple of places. I also haven't used volume envelopes on the exported final wave file. That's also something I'll need to give go to. Great thoughts.

When I switched to SONAR at the S1 update to v3, I basically forgot about those training videos. And the other two I picked up on a special they were having. Hi, No I am not aware of these courses. The only book I know of on MIDI Orchestration is one that was published in 1997 by Paul Gilreath. The title is a bit misleading, it isn't really a book about orchestration because the author only uses extremely basic examples of his own music and spends the bulk of the book on then-current sample libraries, which are now outdated. The best books on orchestration are by Adler, Piston and Kennan. I think one of the best ways of studying orchestration is to get CDs and scores from the composers whose music you love and listen to the music while reading the score, and then doing score analysis without listening. Finally, there's no experience like direct experience, so if you really want to know orchestration you have to do it, do a lot of it, and either hear your works performed live or use computer technology to realize your ideas.
