Change the order of Automation lanes Broken CWBRN-46633
I was working a project for a friend yesterday. I added an automation lane to control the send level of a track for reverb. Then I decided I also wanted to automate the volume as well. I added the automation lane for volume and it was below the send. I could not find a way to move the volume lane to the top. I tried to drag it but it will not move. I tried to change parameter the the lane was automating but then I was not able to move or copy my previous automation to a different lane. I ended up just leaving everything where it was and lived with it. Am I missing something or is it not possible to change the order of the automation lanes? Thanks

I tried that and it does not work. The lane does not move.

I can confirm in Sonar Platinum Manchester, I was able to drag automation lanes around to any position desired. I had to watch for the light blue line that indicates that I've dragged far enough to move the lane.

Thanks I see the blue line too but nothing moves. Click drag and release when the blue line appears. Nothing happens. However if I grab the top lane and drag down all the data in all the lanes disappears and is now visible in the audio portion of the track. At that point I can select the empty lanes and set them to the automation envelop in the order I want but that is very weird behavior but at least I can get the job done.

I have verified this problem on 2 systems now. My primary system is the one in the sig. Running windows 8.1 64 bit and Sonar Plat Manchester 64bit. The second system is my older DAW and I use it as a backup. It is running windows 10 64bit and Sonar Plat Jamaica Plain 64 bit. To test I start with an empty project, add an audio track and import some audio to it. Then click the Automation Lanes button. The first lane is Volume, click the + twice and it will add lanes for Pan and Automated mute. Click the automated mute lane and drag it up till the blue line shows up and release the mouse button. Nothing happens but if I continue to try to drag things around all the lanes will become empty and the edit filter will just say Automation. At this point I can manually reassign the automation in any order. The click and drag is definitely not working and was the first thing I tried before I posted my problem. Is anyone able to reproduce this besides me?

Tom, I can reproduce the behavior you are seeing in both 32-bit and 64-bit Sonar Platinum "Manchester" on my system. Automation lanes do not change position when dragging the double headed arrow up. In addition, dragging the double-headed arrow down and releasing the mouse results in all automation lane edit filters changing to Automation and the automation nodes all moving from the lanes to the clip. I can then reassign the existing lanes in the order that I wish. This appears to be an undocumented and possibly unintended "feature". Test scenario:1. Create new project 2. Insert Audio track 3. Drag audio clip from Browser to audio track 4. Click the Expand Automation lanes button to open lanes 5. Click "+" twice to add Pan and Automated Mute to automatically created Volume lane 6. Insert and move nodes on all 3 automation lanes 7. Move mouse to Automated Mute lane until mouse cursor becomes a double-headed arrow. 8. Click and drag up until the blue line is just above Volume and release the mouse Expected results:Automated Mute lane moves above the Volume lane Actual results:All Automation lanes remain in original positions [FAILED] EDIT: In case you can't see my signature with system specs, my system is running Windows 7 x64 Hope this helps, -- Ron

after trying again, I now have the same results as Tom and Ron. On my first attempt I didn't have any audio on the track and the lanes moved around with no problem. As soon as I imported the audio into the track, I got these unexpected results. So, I can confirm this unexpected behavior when trying to change the order of automation lanes on Win7 64 bit, Manchester update.

This has never been possible. Track lanes in X2 (where they were introduced) also cannot be moved - and if one moves from top to bottom, unexpected effects occur as described, also in X3 and in Manchester. Edit: I removed the following because it's speculation on my part. But the post below quoted it before I manged to do so, so I'll put it back. > Probably was never intended to be possible, but because tracks support drag-drop functionality, > it exists in automation lanes but is not implemented.

jpetersen Probably was never intended to be possible, but because tracks support drag-drop functionality, it exists in automation lanes but is not implemented.
I'm not sure I agree that it was never intended. If that was the case, then why would Cakewalk document the feature in the To reorder lanes instructions in the Automation > Automation lanes > Using Automation lanes section of the Help file and page 1262 of the SONAR Reference Guide? -- Ron

Ah, you were too fast for me. I edited it from my post. Pure speculation on my part. Should never do that.

It's in the help? And it has never worked? So it was never tested by the designer, nor the developer, nor the help writer. There I go again. Speculation...

I just gave a 5 star to many of the posts here, because I think the bug should be fixed immediately (yes, I can reproduce it).
