Drag and drop audio from Cakewalk Sonar Platinum to Ableton Live?

Question:
I've tried to drag and drop audio-clips from Cakewalk Sonar to Ableton Live but I get an error message Can't open file xxx.wav. So it must be possible but I can't figure out what the problem is:
- different project audio settings?: both 44.1 khz, can't find bit settings in ableton
- ...?

Background:
I've been trying for years to find a workflow within Sonar in which pieces from jam-recordings can be rearranged to new compositions. I've tried to do this with Matrix view and loop construction window but I don't like the flow in loop construction view and once the clips are in the matrix view, you can't edit them. Also recording performances in Matrix view sometimes gives strange results: audio sounding correctly but clips alligning strangely after recording.

Ableton offers possibility of editing the audio when in their 'matrix view' and moreover you can choose a starting point within the clip. This is great when the clip includes a great upbeat but you want the clip to start on the first beat.

For me, SONAR is more useful for multitrack recording, editing and mixing. Ableton would be great as a sketching pad to create songs from jams. So I'm looking for a way to get best of both worlds :-)

From a Windows programming perspective, to implement drag 'n' drop, both applications must be aware of each other. Sonar and Ableton do not "know" each other, that is no surprise.

But Sonar clips can be drag 'n' dropped to the desktop (or a Windows folder, assuming correct permissions), so you will have to go through some temporary folder (or the desktop), then to Ableton.

That could be a bug. Can you post reproducible steps or is it happening randomly?

In Sonar: file>export>audio...(wav)    in Ableton import> (wav). It's the safest way. Or...from the folder wich contains the waves exported from Sonar...drag and drop in Ableton.

Just wondering...if you ReWire Live into SONAR, can you then drag between them?
