Performance module issue
Anybody else notice this - when using my Studio set up (see sig) the CPU portion of the performance module often indicates no activity (no bars shown) but sometimes it does. This variation will happen when the transport is playing i.e. there will be "normal" activity and then all of a sudden, there is no activity. On a similar project on my mobile system (see sig) there is lots of activity. Is this a known issue - i only noticed it since upgrading to Newberryport (skipped several updates on my studio system)?

Its normal. It depends on what is going on in your project. What FX is being used. Also some VST3 FX may cut off while not being used causing a drop in the performance module. All sorts of things can impact what it shows.

But it doesn't show anything. There always used to be at least a little blip on the first core. And when it does show, there is activity on all cores. This happens when the project is playing as well as when it is not.

Than I would say rejoice that you have a fast system. I have seen that on occasion. Little or no activity on the performance module is not that unusual.

Not buying it. When the transport is playing, there will be "normal" activity, (e.g. core 1 at about 30% the other 3 at about 10%) and then all of a sudden, there will be nothing showing.

My module always shows activity on all 'cores', but I'm on Manchester. On a project like the Sonar demo songs there is little difference in levels whether the song is playing or not. That you see no activity at all doesn't seem right. Speaking of this module, I've noticed that while it will often/always show quite a bit more load on the core 1 (0?), the Windows Task Manager does not - all cores there are about equal. For example, running AD2 in Sonar will bring core 1 up to 50%, way above the others, but in Windows it shows no higher, or even lower than the others. So maybe the complaints regarding AD2 were misplaced ?

I guess I misunderstood. That does seem odd.

I saw this happen just once a once a couple weeks ago. At the time I thought it had more to do with my new machine and O/S, but that move coincided with the release of Nooberyport so it could be peculiar to this release. I certainly never saw it any previous release on the old machine.

If you don't have performance problems I'd suggest removing that module from the control bar. No point getting fixated on something that isn't really a problem. If you feel really strong about it I suggest contacting tech support. Anything you get here will be speculation at best.

The Perf Module, to me, is more a somewhat helpful in project indicator of what's up in regards to system resource consumption BUT certainly not the most accurate, nor reliable beast around. 1) I've actually requested (can't remember if officially or just in passing) an updated and more accurate perf module (like an exapandable more detailed view). 2) I've also noticed some out of place behavior recently that I'm not sure was because of an update and actual performance issues (Lexington) or increased Perf Mod inaccuracy or both. Mostly though my point is that the Perf Module dropping out like that, without any other manifestations such as drop outs or crashes, probably isn't a huge deal. I view it more like a mercury/glass thermometer vs. a digital one. To me though I would very much like (as I said) an updated and more detailed version that maybe shows exactly what Sonar is consuming itself (vs. the system or non audio related tasks), what's getting used by plugins, a better meter for disk i/o issues (as opposed to the current Yellow when all is well then a momentary and almost imperceptible RED when there is an issue which leads to a dropout and is my biggest issue) and... well whatever smarter techie folks than I can add in. There are certainly other resource monitors that do this but not tailored for what we'd want to be looking at and those buggers tend to suck power themselves (and are not in APP like the Perf Module is). I will keep an eye on it though. I've kept the Perf module in my Control Bar for ages now. If anything it let's me know when maybe I should start bouncing, freezing, archiving, etc. The Disk monitor is next to useless though because the Red status only blinks for a second before the project chokes on itself. Also... Hi Dwardzala.
