Did V-Vocal come with X3 Pro?
My X3 Producer sat around for a long time. The last few months I've been intent on learning and using the software. So it appears from the educational videos I'm watching that I should have V-Vocal, but I don't have the menu options under RegionFX or V-Vocal. Did V-Vocal come with X3 Pro? Did I miss an installation step? I also owned X2 Pro. Can I get it from there? Thanks!

Melodyne Essential replaced V-Vocal in X3. V-Vocal was included with X2.

I'm buying Melodyne Editor 4. So I probably don't need V-Vocal??? (Sounds like I could get it if I wanted it from my X2 Pro license...) So I was watching a video on Groove 3 about Sonar Platinum. VocalSync is used to tighten up the vocals on two tracks by making one the target and then dialing a knob to bring the other into timing compliance. (An alternative to AudioSnap I suppose???) Is VocalSync better than AudioSnap and Melodyne and V-Vocal? So many tools. Confusing for the newbie. Thanks!

First of all, Melodyne 4 is so much better than V-Vocal there's no comparison. VocalSync is optimized solely for vocals and tightening them, as well as doing dialog replacement for video. AudioSnap is best for individual percussion tracks and other tracks with strong transients. It is less effective with program material. It can indeed be confusing, because there are so many tools and all of them have specialties. But use them, and over a couple months, you'll find what works best for what you need.

If you are buying Melodyne you most certainly will not need VVocal - melodyne is now world's ahead. Vocalsync sync is great for tightening up the timing between vocal takes, backing vocals etc. Why not just upgrade to Platinum, then you will have both Melodyne essential (which you can upgrade at a reduced cost if need be) and vocal sync included, as well as many other great new features for less than the cost of melodyne editor?

There might be other reasons but there is no need to upgrade to Platinum to get Melodyne Essential. It is bundled with X3 Producer.

Woops - sorry. As always Scook is right. Vocalsync is only in the new Sonar though isn't it?

Yes. If you install X2 first before installing X3, then V-Vocal will be available in in X3's RegionFX menu.

Ditto! As a real-world example of a project I recently completed: - I had doubled a vocal track and had 4-8 bar sections with bits here and there that weren't timed as tightly as liked, but were otherwise OK. So, I used VocalSync to make those "wide" adjustments. - I had a few other sections where the timing was mostly good but there were some off-pitch moments. So I used Melodyne to make pitch adjustments and while in there also moved those isolated off-time notes. - I had two sections where I decided to change the tempos after recording, so I used Ctrl+Stretch (AudioSnap) to better align those vocal tracks to the new tempo. And for a clip or two also used VocalSync as a second treatment. While I didn't technically need all three technologies, it sure was handy to have them!
