Those new to Komplete Ultimate

Did you play with everything? For me it was getting more Kontakt libraries and one machine upgraded to Battery 4. BTW Komplete can be installed on 3 machines.

On one machine is took over 4 hours since it had Komplete. I had to jockey between two drives and make sure there was no duplicating. It was the thought process that made it time consuming. Otherwise USB3 made it quick.

The Battery 4 library is smaller than Battery 3. Battery 3 has a timpani.

Rise and Hit, Alicia Keys are quite nice along with the percussive libraries. I've always wanted Damage.

If you downloaded the last NI freebie the included Reaktor libraries will open up in the Reaktor 6 player. I don't know if that's an issue.

As for the VST studio effects,  I haven't used them yet.

I haven't used everything in Komplete Ultimate but over the years I've gotten to grips with most of it. You could spend years in Reaktor alone and not use it to its full potential. I use most of the effects on a regular basis, but not all of the Kontakt libraries. I've always been in two minds about the synths - on the one hand you have some really solid, amazingly well designed synths like FM8, Massive, Monark and the like, on the other you have some which seem to be convoluted science projects which I've never really gotten good usable sounds out of.

Rounds is great - the user interface and workflow leaves a lot to be desired but I've gotten some great sounds out of that which I wouldn't have gotten anywhere else, but stuff like Kontour and Spark just don't seem to gel with the music I make and I've never gotten to grips with how they work (Spark in particular just seems complicated to the point of ridiculousness and the manual was virtually no help at all to me). Prism has some great sounds but again, needlessly complicated and not very well documented at all (ever wondered why there are no "in depth" Prism tutorials online? Nobody can work that thing out enough to give lessons on it!).

Most of their synths suffer from a deficit of really usable presets and seem to lean toward the whole "unmusical sci-fi effect" realm. Either that or horrible dubstep basses you'd never use in a million years.

Oh and as for the Reaktor 6 freebies - some interesting stuff there but again....convoluted science project! Can't make head nor tail of some of those "blocks" or what they do. It reminds me of one of those Fisher Price Activity Boards that babies play with. I just blindly poke away at it until it sounds interesting. Have used it in a track but the sound I got was very precarious, i.e. one slight twiddle in the wrong direction and it's all gone....

That's the case with most synths not named Sylenth.  I do buy 3rd party presets for Massive.  If there is one I would want to master is Reaktor. You really wouldn't need anything else.

That's so funny because of how true it is. Feeling stupid when using something doesn't cause you to come back to it. And yeah, if I was 30 years old (again) I would buy Reaktor and that would be it. Done.

The Maverick is an inspirational piano to play with. For me it is the standout of the entire collection.

I completely agree about Reaktor....I feel like I'm barely scratching the surface with it.

I like the effects and the Scarbee Basses. Due to space limitations I haven't loaded a lot of the cinematic libraries or the Abbey Road Stuff yet....

Finally downloaded and auditioned all the rest.
If you're doing movie soundtrack work there is a huge amount of usable content. Seemingly limitless.

The Scarbee basses are all excellent with the Rickenbacher version standing out.

Almost all the pianos are excellent. The Giant being the odd duck. Not that it's not good, I just don't know what I'd use it for.

Scarbee Funk Guitar is very impressive but will take some time to audition and master.

The synths are endless. Reaktor I find confusing but there are great sounds with a huge learning curve.

The Abbey Road Drums are all excellent and to me stand out over the other drum libraries that are included. None of these will stop me from using Toontracks Superior Drums however. Battery 4 is another really slick and highly usable program.

For me though, the pianos really caught my attention. There are great presets for most of them and that is where you see how well they shine.

It will take me months to audition every instrument but I'm glad I upgraded. I also purchase Indiginus Renegade, the Telecaster library and it is amazing!

I've been using Reaktor for about 10 years. I use it almost every day and build lots of stuff.
I still don't know it very well and have just scratched the surface of its possibilities.
It's only limited by your imagination and your single core speed. I wish it were multi-core.

I upgraded from K10 to K10 Ultimate.  Now I know where Jessica Curry and many others go to for their game soundtracks.  Half of the Amnesia series seems to come from the Action Strikes and Evolve libraries!

Not certain yet if the upgrade was truly worth it.  I need to spend time with the string libraries, but the Abbey kits sound reasonable and new Scarbee basses are good.

The stand-out for me though is Alicia's Keys.  That library just kept me stuck at the keyboard playing for hours and barely a look at the DAW. Very nice indeed.

Re: Those new to Komplete Ultimate 2016/03/22 01:00:38 (permalink)
I've used Soul Treasures a few times. There are some really nice George Duke riffs in there. It's simple concept really - each riff is split into segments which you can time stretch, pitch shift, reverse etc. So you can take the original and twist it around until fits your track. You just have to experiment.

It's also really worth learning the ins and outs of Kontakt because you can click that wrench icon and get inside the instrument to apply your own effects chains etc. You're not just limited to the effects that are given to you on the instrument's interface. Kontakt has a ton of every kind of effect you can imagine from EQ and compression to delays, flangers, choruses, tape sims, amp sims and distortion. Like Reaktor, you can either use it to host factory and third party instruments without ever getting under the hood, or you can roll your sleeves up and create your own stuff.

Isn't the Soul Treasure concept Hip Hop has been chopping up George Duke stuff for a long time and this just makes it easy?

And some follow up on shipping from Best Service in Germany. I bought my K10U update on Friday and I was notified by UPS it is scheduled for delivery Wednesday March 23 end of the day. 5 days from Germany to the frozen tundra of Minnesota with a weekend right in the middle? Wow! I could loose a day due to a snow storm on Wed but that's still nuts.

Why did you order it from a company in Germany? It's not like it's rare and you had no other choice.

ok purchased the download...

so here's my question...

Since I already have Absynth, I presume I can sell the license for that.. so do I uninstall the current version and install Komplete's??

I crossgraded from Kontakt 4 as the qualifying product..

Also ... do I need to uninstall Kontakt 5 Player in order to install Kontakt 5?
