Great technique for one so young, she's obviously put the hours in to get to that stage. That constant shredding and sweep picking bores me to tears though, I can't find any musicality in that.

Yep, give me something slower and melodic with soul any day, over shredding.

Personally I don't see why her gender is even slightly relevant. She's either a good guitarist or she's not. And the truth is, there are thousands of shredders out there with this kind of technique, even at that age. I will say that she has excellent tone, good phrasing and a good sense of rhythm though. No doubt she will get more expressive and melodic as she gets older, like Steve Vai.

Also, it'd be interesting to find out whether that's her er..*compilation* (viz composition.) or rather did someone write it for her. I remember hearing great young classical guitarists, but virtually always they were just parroting what their teachers taught them, like that little monkey clapping cymbals.

michaelhanson ... Yep, give me something slower and melodic with soul any day, over shredding.
I'm not sure that "shredding" is not considered musically valid, or important ... I mean many years ago they thought a couple of violin players were also shredders, and today we barely think of them as capable violin players compared to some of the folks that we have seen in fusion, rock and jazz! But for most youngsters, other than rap, that is the music that is grabbing their ears, just like something else was for our time and place. The only thing we hope is that those folks learn enough about feeling the music to be able to play it better, and beyond the notes, chords and fretting ability, so they can make themselves worthy of their attention. I always think music is music, and metal, or MOTR is still music for me ... so thinking that a guitar shreds in one spot and barely does 5 notes anywhere else, does not mean I think less of it as an instrument of value and major impact on a piece of music. Nowadays, the "glory" is on the guitar ... tomorrow something else ... just hope the girl can get beyond that, but she will learn that the talent next to her age, is slow developing and her coming to grips with that ... will be tough, and she will likely quit, I bet! Too frustrating! But she sure can show them how to do it if she needs to!
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

"Shredding" is a musical seasoning and should be used in the same way that seasonings are added to a nice meal.

Shred was common parlance in the early 90's. I remember these two really cute guys calling me *shredmeister*. They obviously wanted something from me! 20 years later...here we are.

Technically great instrumentalists are thirteen in a dozen nowadays. Time will separate the ones who have something to say and express. Not to mention the ones who tolerate the life of a performing/gigging musician well enough to work themselves into public knowledge.
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Reminds me of the bit in the film "Amadeus" that I use all the time as an example ... when the King had no words for the new music, that was not methodical as he and his cronies were used to listen to, he said ... "too many notes". I still use that example today, as I did on the earlier post in this thread.
