Is it possible to copy an entire track (not a clip) from one project to another?
Probably a stupid question - but is this possible? If so, how? I've copied clips from one project to another all the time, but am curious if an entire track can be copied between projects.

Yes, you can. Open both projects. Open a new track in the project you are interested to have the copied track. From the first project copy the track and past it in the secont project's new track. That's so easy.

Yes I just did it yesterday. Open both projects, highlight the entire track in the source project, select the track and time in the destination project and paste. Just like copying clips.

thanks for the quick response. I'm obviously doing something wrong - I didn't see an option to copy the entire track. I'll give it another go.

The key is to highlight what you want to copy (Length of track) as DRanck stated. It's not a copy option that you are looking for, you have to highlight all that you want to copy.

If the track consists of one long clip you can drag and drop between the 2 projects

Ok, sorry - but if I'm highlighting the clips for the length of the track - then isn't that copying the clips (and not the track)? Sorry if I'm not following your point correctly.

OK, I see where you are coming from, you are talking copying the entire Track, not just audio? settings and all (eq, plugs etc).?

If that's what you are trying to do,you are not going to be able to copy the entire track, settings an all to another project, only clone the track within the same project, which wouldn't be what you're looking for. The option is to just copy the audio to another project, save your plug settings etc in each plugin, and replicate your settings in the new project you've copied your audio to. I think I was misunderstanding what you were after, as did a few of us here, judging by the responses you received, my apologies.

Use a track template to copy the track settings, FX Rack, PC, etc. then copy the clips as described above.

Ok, so it sounds like I'm not missing an easier way to do things... essentially it means copying the clips and then separately doing other things... thanks!

Take a look at track templates as scook suggested. Might be just what you need.

IIRC Noel said that anything is technically possible. If so, I want to be able to copy the entire track as is (except for buss assignment etc.) between projects. I have lots of linked clips within each MIDI track. Currently, when the clips are copied to another project, the links get broken.

i wanted to do this last night, but learned here that this task is not really possible. so i ended up creating a track template of the track i wanted to copy and paste into another project. then i created a new track with the new template in the project i wanted to paste the track into. then i copied the clips from the original project into the new track i created with the new template. that worked well. the new track had all the pro channel settings, the vst plugins & all the automation intact. it would be nice to be able to copy and paste a track from one project to another, but this workaround was pretty easy & didn't take too long. thanks guys!
