Would like tutorial on using Addicitve drums 2 or Session drummer

Anyone know of any free tutorials on using either of the above  ? The easier to follow the better :)

Is one of them easier to learn than the other  ?

Many thanks

You can use Session Drummer with it's supplied presets or delve deep inside the sfz format (not as hard as one might think) and create very good, dynamic kits including such fineries as round robin.

Go to YouTube and enter something like "Sonar Session Drummer Master Class". You'll get lots of hits.
Seth Perlstein's offering should start you off:

AD I don't have, but I believe you cannot use your own sounds, although I stand to be corrected on this.

You can use AD(2) midi loops with other instruments (like session drummer) but you can't load custom samples into the interface. It doesn't really make sense to either, but I suppose you'd have to have used it to understand why.

YouTube is your friend for tutorials!

Because of AD2's flexibility and whatnot, it took a while to come to grips with it.  I used Session Drummer for a long time, but only use AD2 now.  The breakthrough I experienced in learning AD2 was to laboriously create a cheat sheet to the Edit Page.

Addictive Drums 2 – Edit Page
    Sampler Strip (Top Row)

It is possible to copy the entire top row settings and paste those to another drum piece by right clicking; alternatively, copy and paste just one section to another drum.  As far as Mixer Channel Outputs, all should be sent to the Master Out unless external plug-ins are desired (e.g., the snare).
    • Far left panel selects drum to edit, and send levels to the Overhead and Room mics
    • Response Panel
      • NoAlts – defeats the alternate hits, all hits sound the same
      • Response Slider – limits the pool of hits by raising or lowering the bottom or top slider.  Once selected, you can drag the selection-field up or down by dragging the central bar.
      • Volume (of  lower velocities) - Counter-clockwise makes lower velocities louder, clockwise makes lower velocities softer
      • Filter – low pass filter, cuts higher frequencies of lower velocity hits making them duller
      • Pitch
        • Main – adjusts tone up/down globally
        • OH/Room – adjusts tone up/down but only in Overhead and Room mics
        • Pitch Envelope/Tone Designer window
          • Pitch Envelope – adjusts tone over time
            • Beneath the graph are 3 windows (start, hold, and end), which are adjusted by clicking and dragging on these windows
            • “Vel” slider – only applies effect to specific range of velocities
    • Tone Designer – transient shaper
      • 3 windows (start, decay, end) adjusted by clicking and dragging are useful to dampen/exagerate ring
      • Volume Envelope
        • Adjust attack, sustain, delay, release by dragging the 4 little circles about on the graph
        • Cut – hi/low pass filter
          • Control filter by raising or lowering the bottom or top slider.  Once selected, you can drag the selection-field up or down by dragging the central bar.

Addictive Drums 2 – Edit Page
Channel Strip (lower half of screen)

Strip is semi-independent from Sampler Strip; however, making a selection on the mixer will focus both the Sampler and Channel strip on same drum.
    • Mic placement (left-most window)
      • only the kick and snare have 2 mics and the balance between these is adjusted with the slider below
      • on the snare there is a top slider that adjusts how much snare noise bleed occurs in other drums (i.e., real world sound)
      • Noise – the arrows select different noise generators (tube, vinyl, etc.)
        • Level – volume of noise
        • Decay – how long the noise sustains (i.e., “tail”)
        • Compressor – Distortion module  (NOTE that this module “flips” with the “Tape and Shape” module such that you can have either (or both) pre or post the EQ module)
          • Compressor
            • Meter – shows gain reduction
            • Slider – sets the threshold for compressor
            • Ratio – Attack – Release controls
    • Distortion
      • Right/left arrows select various types of distortion sources
      • Amount knob gives distortion depth
      • Mix knob mixes in that amount
      • Graph adjusts frequency of distortion by raising or lowering the bottom or top slider.  Once selected, you can drag the frequency selection-field up or down by dragging the central bar.
      • EQ – 4 band with high/low pass filters
        • Bandpass filters adjusted with triangle on either side of graph
        • Each band has readout which shows mid-frequency, gain/reduction, and Q value.  These are adjusted by dragging the 4 circles on the graph.
        • Tape and Shape
          • Tape
            • “Drive” knob controls amount of analog tape effect
            • “Bottom” knob controls additional low end
    • Shape – transient shaper
      • “Attack” exaggerate or subdue attack
      • “Decay” exaggerate or subdue sustain (“tightness”)
      • Output knob
        • “Inserts” turns on/off the Channel Strip for A/B
        • “Sends” turns on/off the effects sends to the Dlerbs.  It also indicates “how much” of the drum piece is being sent to each of the 2 Dlerbs
        • Note that Room, Bus and Master have their own Channel Strip.  A subset of drum pieces can be routed to the bus for further processing, typically heavy compression, and then tastefully mixed into the Master out.

Addictive Drums 2 – FX Page
    Dlerb
    • Left-side controls echo generator
      • “Sync” allows setting of note-dependent echoes
      • “Feedback”
      • “Swing” – randomizing level
      • “Pingpong” – right/left delay effect
      • “Slider” balances amount of echo to reverb
      • Right-side controls reverb generator
        • Predelay
        • Decay
        • Damp
        • Swirl – enhances reverb effect
        • EQ – dials in the frequency that feeds the effect unit
        • Output
          • Pre/Post master determines whether the Dlerb effects will pass through or bypass the  “Master Channel Strip” effects
