A Curious Rain(album teaser)

I've been working on an album for a while now- A Curious Rain, so I thought I'd put together a little teaser. I'm in the mixing phase right now and hoping for a Summer release.

I love surprises, and this song delivered.  Your potpourri of styles and changes kept my attention all the way through.  Your mix is spacious and clear, and the change at 3:00 was very cool.  Yet, I found myself missing some low end here and there.  It seems heavily weighted in the mids and highs, which is OK from an orchestral point of view, but makes it seem kinda light.  If that's your vision, then I'm perfectly good with that.  All in all, a nice Easter surprise.

    All the best,
    Lynn

Very nice stuff William!  I look forward to hearing more...
    • Nice opening.
    • Love the choral stuff, then it was gone. I understand it's a teaser, but still... :)

The beginning reminded me a bit of Yes' Close to the Edge.

Ditto to the above - great use of "live" space around everything.   FWIW, this sounds like something that you'd be working on for a while.   Eclectic yet consistent.  I liked that "old" piano piece a few minutes in, that led to the strings + harpsichord, that led to a chorals section.  Good stuff!

If you simply slapped a smile eq on it, you might like the result.  Loved the compositions though.

Yeah, I was thinking Close to the Edge too! Really much less chaotic here, sounds like you have more of a plan than they did. :) Good work! Updated because I forgot to mention that the change at around 3 min is ass-kicking.

This certainly has sounds of the old prog rock concept albums that YES used to do. I did feel that the strings around 4:20 could have done with a bit more weight, unless the light sound is what you where aiming for.

    Good luck with the release.

I'm with Lynn on this one, totally captivating pieces and styles and kept my interest for several songs. Just missed the intensity of the lows and its absence was noticed, that's my only possible critique.

I like your taste in progressions, moods and themes. Your writing is great.
