Hey John! Mix is pretty good on this. The rotary guitar sounds a tad hot with a little distortion on the edges, but that could be intentional. The only other things that I think could be better is that there are only a couple of spots where there is a recognizable melody. The other guitar solos sound just like solos, which gives the overall impression of a guitar jam. This may be your intent, but I thought I'd just throw that out there. BTW, your playing is very nice throughout! Overall though, really well done. Regards, Dan

Very nice John!! The mix was very clear & clean and loved the bass/guitar tones. I also agree with Dan on the melody part.....putting a catchy (hook) melody for the verse and/or chorus would really make this tune stand out. Nonetheless, this was done really well IMO, and I've always enjoyed listening to your songs/compositions......(this particular one did remind me a bit of Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits). Good stuff!!!

Mix works here John, as noted could do with a little something extra to help it stand out a little but it's OK thanks for sharing.

Well, thanks a lot for listening guys - and for the comments. I guess I have to work harder to make identifiable melodies - because I *did* mean to do that (let's be honest).

I hope you don't feel discouraged by that. The melody I heard was more or less represented by what the "rotary" guitar was playing. It "peeked" out in a few other spots, but it wasn't coherently a theme. It's important as an instrumentalist (of which I am one as well) to have a unifying theme or melody to hook the listener and carry the song. Took me many years to do it somewhat competently...lol. Regards, Dan

Not discouraged Dan, that's the kind of comment I *want* ;-)
I try to think of a "melody" line for each part (except the breakdown in the middle, and the guitar solo) but don't necessarily think of linking everything up. I guess I'm hoping that instinct will do that ;-)
PS - and I will NOT start singing ;-)

Me neither, lol. Wife won't let me. Some songs are harder than others, but I just doodle until something "feels" right. You know when you're on to something. Once I've got a solid verse or chorus line or two, the rest comes easier. Regards, Dan

Nice mix... clear and balanced. I really liked the sorta (but not quite) retro feel. You've got like what, ten different guitar parts happening? S-Gear sounds great on this BTW, clean to dirty to distorted. How were the wah parts done?

Hi Steve, Thanks a lot for listening! ;-) Yeah - there are a bunch of guitar parts layered ;-) The wah is - you guessed it - a (real) wah wah pedal ;-)

There are indeed a lot of things going on in this number but I believe that they all mesh very well. The mix sounds good but there are two things sell the song to me and those are: 1) some very good playing; and 2) a great rhythm that carries the song along (I am a nut case for strong rhythms). Nice one.

Freddy - thanks a lot for listening, and for your comments ;-)

Ah... gotcha. But who cares, it sounds good! This makes me want to plug in my Vox Tonelab which also has one of "those" pedals...
