Hi,

I've got a new song out. It's called "Pitter Patter" - you can check it out
here:

It's got the usual suspects, and a little "rotary speaker guitar" too ;-)
SONAR Platinum
Strat/Tele through S-Gear amps
Superior2 drums
Trilian
Omnisphere
some Kontakt bits and pieces

any comments/suggestions/critiques welcome ;-)

    Hey John!

Mix is pretty good on this. The rotary guitar sounds a tad hot with a little distortion on the edges, but that could be intentional.

The only other things that I think could be better is that there are only a couple of spots where there is a recognizable melody. The other guitar solos sound just like solos, which gives the overall impression of a guitar jam. This may be your intent, but I thought I'd just throw that out there. BTW, your playing is very nice throughout!

    Overall though, really well done.

    Regards,
    Dan

Very nice John!! The mix was very clear & clean and loved the bass/guitar tones. I also agree with Dan on the melody part.....putting a catchy (hook) melody for the verse and/or chorus would really make this tune stand out.

Nonetheless, this was done really well IMO, and I've always enjoyed listening to your songs/compositions......(this particular one did remind me a bit of Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits). Good stuff!!!

Mix works here John, as noted could do with a little something extra to help it stand out a little but it's OK thanks for sharing.

Well, thanks a lot for listening guys - and for the comments.
I guess I have to work harder to make identifiable melodies - because I *did* mean to do that (let's be honest).

I hope you don't feel discouraged by that. The melody I heard was more or less represented by what the "rotary" guitar was playing. It "peeked" out in a few other spots, but it wasn't coherently a theme. It's important as an instrumentalist (of which I am one as well) to have a unifying theme or melody to hook the listener and carry the song. Took me many years to do it somewhat competently...lol.

Not discouraged Dan, that's the kind of comment I *want* ;-)

I try to think of a "melody" line for each part (except the breakdown in the middle, and the guitar solo) but don't necessarily think of linking everything up. I guess I'm hoping that instinct will do that ;-)

PS - and I will NOT start singing ;-)

Me neither, lol. Wife won't let me.

Some songs are harder than others, but I just doodle until something "feels" right. You know when you're on to something. Once I've got a solid verse or chorus line or two, the rest comes easier.

Nice mix... clear and balanced.    I really liked the sorta (but not quite) retro feel.  You've got like what, ten different guitar parts happening?

S-Gear sounds great on this BTW, clean to dirty to distorted.    How were the wah parts done?

    Hi Steve,
Thanks a lot for listening! ;-)
Yeah - there are a bunch of guitar parts layered ;-)
The wah is - you guessed it - a (real) wah wah pedal ;-)

There are indeed a lot of things going on in this number but I believe that they all mesh very well.  The mix sounds good but there are two things sell the song to me and those are:  1) some very good playing; and 2) a great rhythm that carries the song along (I am a nut case for strong rhythms).
    Nice one.

    Well, it's "semi real" - http://www.bossus.com/products/pw-10/
It *is* a real thing that you put your foot on and make it go up and down - to make "wah"s though...
