Melodyne Editpr 4 w Sonar x3(?)

I just bought Melodyne Editor 4 and installed it.  Cool.

When I run Sonar X3, if I drag an audio clip to a midi track, the audio is converted to midi (by Melodyne).  Cool.  If I do it with polyphonic audio (like piano) it gets converted to midi too.  Cool.

BUT -
If I select a clip, or select a region of a clip, go to Region FX | Melodyne | Create Region FX the wheels spin, the Dock is raised, but the Melodyne UI is not raised.  There is no tab for the Melodyne editor.  Now I kinda stuck.

I can run Melodyne standalone ok,  BTW.

So I never really used Essential 2.  I'm going by the video that came with Sonar X3.  I'm not sure exactly how things should work...

Questions
1) If I want to use ME4 on an entire clip, do I need to use the Region FX approach?
2) Can I add ME4 to the track  FX bin similar to other audio FXs?
3) How can I get the Region FX linkage to work so I can use ME4 on a portion of a clip?

Thanks for the help!

BTW - I added ME4 to the tracks FX bin and raised the ME4 UI.  I clicked the Transfer button and played the area of the song that contained the clip I was wanting to work on.  ME4 captured the audio, analyzed, and displayed blobs for the polyphonic guitar part.  So there are signs of life...

I'd still like to get the Region FX stuff working.

    More questions -
    1) So after I edit my audio with ME4, do I just bounce to clip (like I would with AudioSnap) to lock in the changes?
    2) Would I then remove or turn off ME4 in the track FX bin?

    Thanks again

I've only used Melodyne in Region FX. After you edit the audio, go to Region FX menu/render region FX. I don't believe you can select a portion of a clip (I may be wrong). You would need to split the clip first to make a separate clip for Melodyne.

Well, my Region FX appears to be broken.  I'd really like to get that working...

With ME4 as a track audio FX (in the bin) I'm not getting how to work with multiple clips on the same track.  What I want to do is Transfer a clip, work on it, save the results, then move on to the next clip.

So I set the now time to the start of a clip, goto ME4, click Transfer, play back the clip, stop playback, let ME4 do its analysis, party on the blobs.  Then I close ME4 and Bounce to Clip to save the results.  NOT SO!!!

If I turn off ME4 and play the track my edits are not in the bounced clip.  Turn ME4 back on and the edits are there.

If I bounce to track I can get a clip with my edits, but that seems like taking the long way home.

I don't see any provision for saving edits from within ME4 in plugin mode.

How do I persist the ME4 edits so I can move on to the next clip?  (And eventually delete the instance of ME4...)

    Thanks

Melodyne Editor 4 should work as a Region FX in X3. I just tested Melodyne Studio 4 in X3 Producer. Region FX is clip based so it operates on the entire clip, one clip per Region FX instance. Region FX require installing the VST3 version of the plug-in.

That's a really important point - without the VST3 version of Melodyne installed there is no ARA/Region FX, but everything else Melodyne related would behave normally.

IIRC, Melodyne 4 also requires the X3e patch installed in addition to the VST3 version mentioned above to use its ARA functionality.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Working out my "dll hell" seems to have done the trick.  ARA is very cool.  I still have a lot to learn about ME4, and I think there are some differences running it in ARA mode (versus standalone), but I'm very impressed!

BTW - $149 buys an upgrade from Editor to Studio through the end of the month.  I'm game...
