Unlinking "Linked" audio clips
Some of my audio clips are "linked" (in Clip Properties it says "Clips Linked: (Multi)" as opposed to 0. This probably happened because I started out this project recording multiple tracks simultaneously in "Comping" mode instead of "Sound on Sound". I would like to unlink the smattering of linked clips from each other, but don't see how. All the "unlink" menu options are shadowed out when I highlight the offending clips. My recording method when I started this song was probably not "kosher"...and I want to see if I can save what I have done so far instead of starting over. Reason: Sonar is becoming increasingly unstable as I record measures further down the line.
Craig Anderton, my hero, said he always uses Sound on Sound to avoid issues (like this?) when doing simple recording. I was doing multiple passes (looped) saved to separate tracks, and then dragging the tracks I like up to the the tracks already populated with previous kept parts of that instrument (guitar). In "comping" mode, when recording "two tracks at a time", the clips end up linked. Dragging some of them to other tracks, already populated with other, previously recorded clips, could be the reason I am now having stability (hang) problems with this particular project. The tracks may be too "confused".
I may just start over...which is fine. Or I could save clips individually and rebuild a new song with a fresh template. I'm wondering what "artifacts" may be lingering in these clips...even if I save them to the desktop.
I suspect that if I can just "Unlink" those linked clips it may cure the problem. The were linked in comping mode, automatically. Interesting.
