AbbeyRoad Plates plugin crashes Sonar Platinum (SOLVED)
I'm having an issue with the Waves AbbeyRoad Plates plugin in Platinum. I just re-images my PC. Process: delete and recreate partition Install Windows 7 Install Chipset, Video, audio drivers etc. Install all Windows updates. Over 225 updates. Install my Virus software. Install apps, MS Office, Adobe etc. Install interface Mixcontrol 3.4. I don't want 3.7, 3.4 has worked great and I'm keeping it. Install sonar Platinum Install all my plugins I do this every 6 to 8 months. All installations went well, no issue showed the ugly head. I pulled up a project I am working on and to my surprise the tracks I have the AbbeyRoad Plates are redlining as if I am feeding it an extremely hot signal and the project won't play. When I trun off the plugin the project plays fine. I save and close and get a crash dump error. ( Module C:\programfiles(86) Waves\Plug-insV9\ARPlate/bundle\content\win64\ARPlates.dll) Then there is an exception code c0000005 and so on. I uninstall Waves and re-installed to no avail. This issue is with Sonar only as the Abbeyroad Plate and all my other plugins are working fine with no issue in studio One and Mixbus. I'm not sure what to try at this point. I would assume if the plugin is faulty it wouldn't work in any DAW. All suggestions are very welcome. I'm sure this has happened before. I haven't found anything simular on this forum so far. thanks

Mosvalve I would assume if the plugin is faulty it wouldn't work in any DAW.
This is not a valid assumption, a recent example being NI Replika which was crashing SONAR but appeared to be working elsewhere. The fix had to come from NI. The fault appears to be in the ARPlates.dll so the best people to contact would be Waves support.

You are right about that. What's strange is that this plug worked perfectly fine before I re-imaged my PC. I can't imagine what's different now because I didn't install any new apps music or otherwise. Everything is identical of what I had before I re-imaged. Go figure. It's only this plugin though. I'll contact Waves and see what they say.

Have you tried creating a new project, recording some audio and then trying the Plates plugin again? Perhaps there is a problem with the project itself... Also, when you say it is only this plugin that is a problem, are other Waves plugins working in Sonar? Dan

Not everything is the same. The only way it would be the same is if you used a program to image the hard drive with the OS, all apps and plugins installed and then took that image and reapplied it to the hard drive when you wanted to clean house. Reinstalling is not quite the same as this because there's no image file, rather you are having to piece by piece reconstruct the system. The latter is a very time consuming and potentially error prone process. One could use something like True Image, Ghost or other disk imaging programs. Usually an image can be applied in minutes. That would be preferred to starting over with the OS install, etc. All those Windows updates changed system dlls, potentially microcode, etc. As to why Waves may be crashing, not sure. SONAR saved a crash dump, you'll find it in the Minidump folder I believe in a Plugins subfolder. You could send that to Waves. In the interim you should check your SONAR settings. You might not be matching the audio core you used previously (WDM, ASIO, etc.) buffer settings, project sample rate, etc. Or perhaps you have double precision processing enabled and that plugin isn't happy with that (where before you might have only had SONAR set to single precision) The fact that you got pegged meters though suggests Waves isn't happy with something. Check the setting here: (go to Edit > Preferences > Audio - Driver Settings and see if the 64-bit Double Precision Engine check box is checked. Uncheck it if so and see if that has any effect.

Yes Keith it is time consuming for sure but I got good at it having over 25 years of experience creating images for large corporations but I'm not implying because of my experience issue can't occur. Were talking computers here and it's like gambling. I used Ghost over the years and do have a copy of True Image which I think would be a good idea to image again once I have everything working good. I just like creating new sometimes because I my not want certain applications anymore etc. There are just so many variables it can drive you mad. I think Microsoft is messing with Windows 7 users trying to force us to Win10. I was on the phone with Waves support today and he took control of my system and we tried all kinds of things but he couldn't figure it out. He requested I send him my project minus the audio files so they can work on it. Hopefully they can figure it out. For now I have to remove the plugin in order to work on my projects. I also sent them the crash dmp file. all my other plugins work fine so far though i haven't tested them all, only the plugs I used all the time. thanks for your suggestions and i will let you know the outcome.

Hi Bob, Did you try what Dan suggested - does it work with a brand new project setup or do you get the same issue? I just last week what a problem with FabFilter (which happened in all my active projects but not in a new one, potentially because my active ones are derived from the same template)

U did try all that to no avail. Here's the update: In a new project with sample rate 441 and 16bit importing the raw tracks of the original project I cannot get it to fail at all. Any project at 48k or 96k new or not fails. All my other Waves plugins and my other plugins work fine in all projects regardless of sample rate. Pretty strange it works fine in a 441. I'm waiting to hear from Waves.

Update for those who are interested: Waves sent me an email with a download link to an ARPlates.bundle zip file and told me to copy it to the waves plugin v9 folder then test to see if the plugin crashed Sonar. So far the plugin has not crashed Sonar and is working fine. I'll be testing it for a couple of days just to make sure. I asked them what the difference is between this file and the original one and they said it is an un-released version of the plugin that had a few fixes implemented. So far this version of the plugin seems to have resolve the problem. I will give another update in a couple of days.

Update: So far all is well. No crashes using the updated ARPlates bundle file they gave me. I assume they will or have updated their download area with the updated version of this plugin. I still don't know what the actual fix is but it's working now so I guess it doesn't matter. I asked my buddy to test his ARPlates and it turned out he got the crashed to. I sent him the email that waves sent me with the link and after he copied the file all was well. I expect this is happening to others but I have not heard anything.

Thanks for your reply, Mosvalve. I've just spent a couple of hours on the phone to Waves Tech Support and have forwarded them this info to go along with my case. I'll post back when I get a response and hopefully a solution. Mine works fine in 16bit 44.1khz. My problem only happens in 24bit 48khz, which is what I need to record at.

I wish the link worked it would have saved you time. You will find it doesn't work with 96k sample rate either. I couldn't get it to fail at 16bit 441. Not sure why it works at that and not 48 or 96. The fix is definately the new version of the plugin. I haven't had a problem since with any sample rate. Good luck
