Audio Device Ordering - change devices and preserve sanity with existing projects

I'm experimenting with different driver models to try and enable simultaneous use of two audio devices in Sonar.

I've always used ASIO, but I switched over to WDM/KS, to see how it supports using two interfaces concurrently. It seems to work OK in a brief audition.

The big problem I'm seeing is that "secondary" audio device is showing up at the top of the list in the Devices dialog. This is a problem because the device list is global, and now every existing project I have is routing audio to the wrong device.
I thought there was a way to re-map the order, but I can't seem to find it.  The MIDI devices has the "Moved Checked Devices to Top" button, but I see nothing like that on the audio devices.

I tried editing the Friendly Names to change the secondary devices names to z_device, but they are staying at the top of the list.

What am I missing? The help says nothing about device order. I've kept my audio device mapping the same for a long time - is there another re-mapping matrix somewhere that I have forgotten about?
