Behringer FCB1010 not saving
Hey guys. I'm having a problem with my Behringer FCB1010 midi foot controller. I programmed it to send midi notes and everything was working fine, but after using it for a few months, I went to change some of the pedal values, but every time I turn off the FCB, it resets my values. Everything I programmed before still comes up, but nothing new will save. For example, if I go to Bank 9, Pedal 4, and set it to send midi note 94 (cleverly), it works just fine...until I turn it off, and then it just resets. A couple of months ago, this same problem happened for a week, and it just magically started working again. But now it's on the fritz and I don't know what to do. I've tried doing a factory reset, but after turning it off and on, THAT didn't save either, and it's back to how I programmed it before. Anyone have any ideas?

Could have a dead battery.

It's a Behringer, what else could we say :) Sorry , couldn't resist. I was thinking of purchasing one of these as an option to running Sonar to send midi patch changes to my Effects. It would be a lot of work to set up all 120 songs I have to do this. So a simple footswitch control is appealing Is there a firmware update for it?

Rbh: thanks for the reply. I don't think there's a battery inside. The manual doesn't mention it, and it needs to be plugged in to use. Cactus: I knooooooow! Behringer... But I've looked up the FCB1010, and very few people have problems with is (beyond the initial programming). One guy even said his was underwater for a weekend in a flooded basement, and it was still fine! Never heard of my no-save problem. You can't update the firmware via software, you have to buy a new chip. Buuuut, that would probably work to solve my problem (as it seems like an internal software glitch), and new chips are supposed to only cost about $10. Hadn't thought of that. Thanks!

Be advised that programmable devices require a power source, so the dead battery has merit. It is most likely not a typical consumer-replaceable one (AA, AAA, 9V, etc.), but rather a small internal Lithium battery. If that dies, a device cannot retain memory when powered off. Depending on design, such a battery may be replaced, but is often a specialized (rechargeable) battery.
ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

the original FCB1010 is renowned for not working properly. hence, guy somewhere in Belgium or Netherlands created a new EPROM that you can order for a few bucks, swap for the origial and have many issues fixed. I did that right from the beginning and the FCB1010 has worked fine for me so far ... now if I could only remember the name of the guy (but I'm sure google can track him down)

Yes it will have a battery like a CR2020 in there some where. But they are generally good for 10 years or so.

Oh man. So right! I didn't realize that most memory chips have to have a small CMOS battery (e.g., CR2020, CR2032). But it doesn't appear that mine has one. Took it to the shop and opened it up: no battery. Old Version 1.0 FCB memory chip though, from 2001, so might be time to replace it. I've read that the current version of this chip is 2.5.1E, and that Behringer will generally provide these as no cost to you. But I might just get that UnO EPROM, as it looks like it's solved some of the problems with the official chip. Thanks, pwalpwal. :D
