Very nice mix and composition Tim - Bouzouki sounds great.
This one would make a great bed for vocals

I think someone else mentioned the same thing. Thanks for that suggestion...maybe. I can't see where I would fit in there yet.

    Nice.

I engineered and mixed a CD for a Greek band (back in the 90s) and so I've heard a LOT of bouzouki.

Very enjoyable!   I liked how you've combined the instrumentation with a different overall feel.  In some ways it reminded me a bit of early-mid Zeppelin.   I can almost hear Robert Plant belting out....

I think Steve is on to something. I'd also suggest bringing the drums up a bit, they sound too timid way back there. Same with the bass...

Nice song Tim, just needs something more to finish it...

    Update-

I collaborated with a great singer on this music. I'm posting the revised track here. I hope this doesn't get buried because I need your thoughts on his new mix with vocals.
Just a little background- This particular mix is out of my hands, but I still have this track and his vocal so I could rework it to my liking.
I'm not going to comment on his version.. Opinions?
I'm trying to see if maybe my hunches are correct on this or maybe I'm being too picky.

SteveC- Thanks for listening. You aren't the first one to say this about a connection to Zep...wow I feel like this is a high compliment. Thank!

Dan- I hear you on this. I'll see what I can do with it.

    J.S.-Thanks for listening!

    Hey Tim,
this is lovely playing!  I agree with Dan, I'd like to hear the drums more - they're almost inaudible.

is this supposed to start that way?  it seems like it's already started by the time the player starts.

on the version with vocals, "Power Over Me" - I understand you say the mix is out of your hands, but it really needs some work.  vox are waaay too wet with verb and the verb is very muddy, the vox themselves have a sharpness on them that sounds like a really high gain high shelf.  I'd say that he was going for a particular sound, but personally, I'm not into it.
the vox overpower the rest of the instruments and now the guitar sounds dull.

    just my 2 cents!

loved the guitar playing on this - very nice!

I do think the vocals compliment the music well - good combination.   However, mix-wise, I agree with Reece that it needs work - some of the clarity in the original version is missing, and the vocals have a bit of an edge, but more important sound like they were laid over top instead of an integral part of the song.

Thanks you two for the input.

I finally had time to remix this track. I had the vocalist track which has some treatment on it. I went for a more crisp feel to the mix. Less reverb , more definition to the parts.

like the tune....seems like it coming along but I'll just say the source is the key....if that has dynamic issues then it'll be limited in the end...but again strong tune and you've come a long way!

While it's still not exactly what I'd personally like to hear mix-wise, I do think your version is much more in the ballpark.  The vocals, while still a bit "sizzly", do sit within (and blend with) the the music bed much better.

Tim, as I told you before I love your Celtic influence.  This tune is great- I just compared the reverb mix to non-reverb one and I think I like the no verb one better as it's just more clear/ more crisp but still has that 'far away sound' in a Zeppelin way ;)

I like this. I'm not sure I like the lyrics though. Where you say he has the power over us, I say he just doesn't care. Humans are evicting themselves off this planet and as Dante says, paraphrased, the darkest places in hell are reserved for the apathetic. So, what exactly is this power? I don't mean to belittle your beliefs but what's the point when apathy is great than he is? I won't deny that there may be a god but what's the point when we sit back and watch ourselves destroy his gifts? Assuming there is a god, I stand in opposition tho those who wish to destroy him. Sadly, that's most humans. As a helpful note to how you can improve the lyrics, What is it that entices you to believe he has the power over you? For me, it is the gift of this planet, the water, our loved ones, the variety in nature. This is my beef with religion. Do we really care, as humans, anything about god? Given that, at present, we are undergoing an extinction even and willing to do absolutely nothing about it, would god even care about us?

I don't wish to offend but if god exists, he compels me to speak the way I do.

The music is great. I love hearing your stuff. Somewhere in the 300hz to 500hz range, it's mushy. It could be that it seems to mono. The drums are buried and the bass is a little low as well. You should be able to take the explosives away from your voice as well as the finger slides that stick out. Other than that, this is really nice stuff.

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.

you've got some great elements here with a sub-optimal mix. the vocal sounds too distant (too much verb) and too mono. are there drums on this...need to be much more prominent. instruments are very well played and recorded and indeed mixed.
