March of the Bees (Beepster Metal Retracked and Remixed)...

Hello, all. I finished this one late last year and "mastered" it in february. Just haven't got around to posting until now. It's the first song I tracked in Sonar (back in the X1 days). I rerecorded all the guits and bass and used a bunch of the mixing techniques I've learned around here (thanks muchly).
 
Warning... this is very LOUD and thrashy metal so you may want to turn your speaker/headphones down at first.

Soundcloud seems to have added a bit of extra shrillness to it which is unfortunate because it was right on the edge already. I might try exporting a -0.3db version but this be it for now.

Indeed. This was written in an odd way. I wrote it around a series of beats I programmed into BFD Eco standalone and exported to audio so I was unable to edit it at all. It was basically just a test of BFD after I first installed it and I didn't know what I was doing back then. So I was restricted in what I could do.
 
However I do think there is still quite a bit of "melody" in there. It's just the lines between melody and harmony tend to get blurred with this type of music.
 
I did actually write and track some vocals to this as an experiment when I did this revisit but they are mostly monotone grunter/growler vocals so they probably wouldn't add much of a "melody". I was mostly just seeing what I could get away with in my apartment so I might be able to move on to writing an album of similarly agressive music. Basically ultra extreme technical metal.

Wow Beepster, that's some high energy music you have there. Great guitar chops. This would make a cool backing track to a video of those guys jumping from mountains in flying suits!

Thanks, buddy. Yeah... I could see that. My old band used to have a big skater/extreme sports enthusiast following. Addicted to velocity those kids are... as am I. At least musical velocity. Physically I don't move too fast these days. lol

Right on, Baps. You probably even remember the original version of this one when I first popped out of the Sonar womb squealing and covered in goop. I think it was even before we did "She's a Monkey". lol
 
I actually left that version up on my Soundcloud page as well as my "5 minute Remix" of the original tracks I did before redoing the song from the ground up.

I just can't see the connection between this and playing Danny Boy at the C&D.   Although we did play an "Irish Lunch" at Grafitti's right after "Black Metal Brunch" once...

Thanks, Sluggo. That's actually an interesting story (well... maybe not lol). I was previously in a signed metal band (indie label) as a teen with a bunch of older dudes which brought me to the city. I was always into all sorts of stuff but mostly thrash. Once there it was tough times due to the recession and Harris years. I worked where and when I could then busked the rest of time. That's when I started meeting/hanging with the punks and started playing in hardcore bands (metal was pretty much dead at that point). I lived around the corner from the C&D and it was a nice place to get a beer away from the wackier punk bars when I wasn't feeling up to it and wanted to be alone. Ended up making friends with the original owner and the regulars but never did any music stuff there.
 
Then the night of the 2003 blackout I was sitting in my dark apartment getting bored off my nut so dragged my acoustic over the the pub. Sure enough a bunch of the other musical regulars had the same idea and we all took turns playing tunes by candlelight and getting hamfaced. I got quite the reaction with my weird mix of originals and covers.
 
Johnny (the owner at the time) got the idea to start up the BFCH and asked me to play guit. Eventually the original band leaders cacked out and I kind of ended up being the unofficial musical director (I had a band space, learned all the tunes backward and forwards including vox and kept on everyone's arse). Johnny was a first time musician so if he looked to me if he forgot a line or I'd take over the vox until he got back on. Eventually he had some health stuff so I ended up being the frontman, we dropped about half a dozen members and the rest is history.
 
Of course that entire time I was still doing all the hardcore bands, metal had a revival so I got back into that, I had a bunch of cover bands and my own solo stuff. I was always active in at least three bands at a time but up to six at some points (on top of work and girlfriends and all sorts of other general chaos). Pretty hectic.
 
But the Irish stuff taught me a buttload about proper theory right when I needed it and it was great drunken fun.
 
Since I know the heavy stuff the best though and I can do it completely silently/DI now that I'm in stuck in apartments (no band room anymore) I've been learning music production with that. It's easier for me to write too and because it's so sonically rich it's more challenging to mix which has forced me to get my head wrapped around it all.
 
That's mah story and I'm stickin' to it.

As for drunken fun, nothing beats having a dancing girl's hair caught in the tuning keys of my guitar while onstage at C&D.  Oh well, gotta keep playing... YANK!  And I've bloodied my hands more playing in BFCH than any other rock band I've played with.

That's why it's best to always give the musicians lotsa room. Steel and wood with lots of stickie outy things can be dangerous.
 
As for the bloodied hands... well the thrash/speed picking from all the hardcore definitely came in handy smashing out the hyper velocity Pogues tunes. I defintely ended up with some bleeding knuckles at times but eventually I got big lumpy callouses on the top knuckles of my right hand.
 
I'd also go through at least three broken strings per show.

I liked it.  Yeah, it's a bit edgy, but it's not like edginess is always a bad thing.  Besides, your playing comes through either way! 
 

Hi, buddy. Thanks for checking it out. My ears have adusted a bit to what Soundcloud did to it but fershure... gonna have to keep that in mind for the future. I'm trying to keep things crisp but not "fatiguing" so when these uploaders add their own squonk to it it's... well... I just gotta keep an eye on that.
