Cloned Simple Instrument tracks - if I freeze any one, all freeze - Bug?
I have made clones of a midi track and made extensive changes to all of them. When I now freeze any one of them, they all freeze! And the frozen audio is identical, containing a mix of all clones. No, they are not grouped.

I believe a clone points to the same synth. Freeze would cause all tracks referencing the same synth to freeze. Historically cloning a SIT has never been a good idea.

This ^^ I never use simple instrument tracks, they're sort of like training wheels for those into VIs...they'll get you going, but only take you so far.

They're clones. Please look in the documentation under "Copying Tracks."

The only part of the documentation I can find that might relate to this phenomenon is the line: "Note: When cloning an instrument track, a new MIDI track is created and assigned to the same synth as the cloned instrument track". To an experienced user, this may clearly indicate that freezing a cloned track will freeze all cloned tracks, but I don't see the connection. So how can I copy an instrument track in such a way that it becomes totally independent?

Use copy instead of clone.

"Clone" means identical. Look in the Synth rack: You will see only one instance of the cloned synth, and one freeze button to Freeze. As there are not separate instruments, there are not separate freeze buttons. If you want individual synths that act independently, you need to insert individual synths. If you want the synths to play identical parts, then copy the MIDI track from one instrument to the other (don't clone it). That way the synths will retain their independence.

So I need to manually insert a second instance of SI String Section, Then manually copy my midi clips to the track of the second instance? @Bristol_Jonesy: your method seems easier. How do I copy (not clone)? I cannot find a copy function in the menus and Ctrl-C, Ctr-V does nothing. And the Help treats Copy and Clone as one thing.

- manually insert another instance of SI
- copy/drag the midi from the first midi track to the second midi track
They will now be totally autonomous and you can freely edit either/both

Yup. Figured that. Just hoped there is a quicker way. Thanks for the help!
