best of bigcat blog (kontakt)

Because I needed another blog.
Anyway I was wondering if you guys could take a look at the blog and the instruments and find errors and such as I'm building it and before I tell the world about it. The idea in general is to have the one best instrument of each type, first orchestral and then band. One blog post for each instrument. Also it is totally kontakt on this blog.
I edited the ldk1609 violin samples so it is much tighter now. The arco samples didn't need too much, but the pizzicato and spiccatto really had way to much dead space, so hopefully a more responsive instrument. I made a new version of the double bass from Mr Smolkin using his newest samples. The DIY Viola Shell and the Cello are unchanged and the string section is slightly reworked with a newer GUI. Now to see what Brass I have...

Thanks Big Catt for sharing. I briefly looked at your blog and it does look good and simple to navigate. I'll definitely have to re-visit and download those "best of".....once I get home.

I appreciate the good work you do.

Thanks Mesh, Fleer and cclarry. I appreciate your support. Any suggestions, finding of bugs or random stupidity on my part ) much appreciated.

Just had a scary moment, the computer crashed all the way to off and then decided to update itself for a short forever when it came back on. Thought of monster virus were going through my head, but it came back and everything seems fine.

I put up the Pablo trumpet which sounds decent and I'm uploading a significantly reworked version of the MSLP Trombone that too me sounds very good. Aside from that I think I'll put up the WIPs version of the missing brass instruments from Iowa Brass to fill in the gaps. While not perfect after tuning they seem not bad until / if I ever find really good French Horn / Tuba samples.

Forgive the gratuitous bump. I finished the Orchestral stuff and wrote a few rambling posts along with it.

I forgot how few free orchestral solo type instruments there really are (not counting pianos as orchestral). I'm not sure if its really worth the bother given that Kontakt ships with an adequate if aged orchestra. But hey free toys and different textures right? That's what i like to tell myself anyway! )

Anyway I finished adding WIPs and the newer GUI to all the Sonatina stuff and put up the WIPs Iowa in one download which folks have asked for.

Now on to pianos which is kind of how I justify all this, even if the 162 blows mine out of the water.

Another bump to say I'm still working on it.

I was looking at the Salamander Piano and noticed that it had toooo much latency. So I've been slowly editing the the assorted wave files. 210 down and 358 to go... This may take a while. Hence the slow down, but hopefully a pretty nice 16 velocity layer and very responsive piano to add to the new blog when complete. Though sampled every third note not every note.
