Bulk Editing ? event list ? Another way ?

Hi everyone ,

I am wondering if there is a solution to make editing a track a little easier ,

Ok for example , on track 29 I have a drum sample at 687:01:120 -687:02:120 -687:03:120 - 687:04,120- 688:01:120 etc etc

However a lot of my samples / let's say 50 drum samples on track 29 end with ???:??:100 , so my question is how can I edit those 50 samples in one go to ???:??:120

I have opened event list and pick tracks selected track 29 , which clearly shows only track 29 and clearly I can see all the changes to which samples to make them all end in :120 , but how do I do it in one go without having to select each one and edit it ?

Is there anyway to do this ?

Thank you

Select all the samples you want to extend (e.g., ctrl+click, lasso, etc.). Extend one from ??:100 to ??:120 and they will all follow.

    Hi Anderton ,

thanks, so here's what I do > I go to event list > pick tracks 29 only > Ctrl click all the ones :100 >then go to tracks view > stretch out track time ruler ( Which in order to see :20 on screen I have to move everything twice ?

I am wondering if there is a easier way to do this in event list ?

Use the event inspector for a video about the inspector see http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3262907

For audio, after selecting, enter the new clip length into the New Duration field in the Audio Snap section of the Clip tab in the Track Inspector

    HI:)

What about Modify/Search/Change Event Filter? Select only Audio and fill in ticks from 90 to 110 perhaps and on the next site fill in 120!
    Must work...

    Hi basseman,

I have not used the event filter before , so you would have to give a step by step example of changing 2 audio samples on the same track at the same time from - sample 1 ( 647:02:100 to 647:02:120 ) and sample 2 ( 647:03:100 to 647:03:120 .

The point I am trying to get to in this post is being able to change multiple audio samples ( ???:??:100 < this particular section of time on multiple samples , so 647:02:???or 847:02:??? the beginning of the samples time -remains the same ,

I am sorry but I am doing my best to try and explain myself and how I need to be able to edit as above and if your suggestion through event filter is possible and you don't mind posting step by step instructions , I would like to know how and would appreciate it also .

    Thanks

    Hi scook ,

I have tried through track inspector , like you said but I think you are not understanding what I am trying to do , unfortunately it doesn't help my situation ,

    Thanks again

    HI:)

    @taccess

Never done this with Audio, tried at the moment, but it seem NOT to work with Audioclips, only with Notes:(

I may not have entirely understood your goal, but if you are trying to stretch a lot of small audio things (each potentially in a separate .wav file) then SoundForge along with AutoHotKey might be the best approach.  you can set up a repetitive process that acts as fast as you can type the shortcut keys.     If it's completely routine, the batch function in SoundForge might take care of it alone, like loading in 200 audio files, stretch them all by 110% without changing pitch.

And then, this kind of process would be done before you use them in Sonar .. then when you get a drum sample it is already longer by the 20ms you want.    You'd create a new drum instrument with all these stretched audio things.

If this is not your goal, then sorry for misunderstanding.

Actually, I was wrong. What I described works only if the audio clips are on different tracks, not the same track. Sorry! (However, multiple fade outs and fade ins will work with clips in the same track.)

What does work is if you want all the clips to have the same final value is to select all the clips in the track and choose the Clip tab in the Track Inspector. Length will show either "Multi" if the clips have different lengths, or the actual length (in the units of measurement specified in the Time Format) if they all have the same length. You can then click on the up/down arrows toward the right of the Length field and drag up to increase the length, drag down to decrease it, or type a specific value into the length field. I just tried this and confirmed that it works.

Re: Bulk Editing ? event list ? Another way ? 2016/04/26 19:00:03 (permalink)
Hi everyone , ok I have explained a bit of this incorrectly and I apologise .

The ???:??:120 is the start of each sample , so all I am trying to do is position all the audio files on a track to the same start times / so some of the audio samples on track 29 are ( 647:03:100 / 847:01:099 / 546:04:79 < I am trying to make these 3 start times of the audio samples to > 647:03:120 / 847:01:120 / 546:04:120 ( all in one go adjust the END OF THE START TIME OF EACH SAMPLE ???:??:120.

I am going over my tracks in event list to make sure all the audio files are in there right time ( so all starting at ???:??:120 , so in event list I add each track > pick tracks 29 < and it's clear to see that every sample is not the same start time so I can manually adjust each start time in event list - but I am wondering why I cannot do the whole track at once ?

This has nothing to do with the length of each sample so I apologise if I was pointing in that direction . This is about being in event list and being able to ctrl click all the start times that are not right ???:??:100 < and change them all at the same time to ???:??:120 , this is a important requirement that really should be available and I am sure once you guys understand exactly what I mean you will agree , think about it at the moment you can change the start time in event list by clicking the little arrows on each event or double click where the start time is and manually input , but imagine being able to ctrl click say 10 events so they are all selected and then manually clicking in one event and changing ???:??:100<to > ???:??120 and hit enter and all 10 events then change to :120 / meanwhile the beginning of the M:B:T >???:?? < remains untouched , and once you understand what I am explaining you will also understand how you could use it on everything else in a similar way inside event list .

    thanks

On another note tools that can stretch without changing pitch is always great , I have sound forge attached inside sonar , i will when I have time test that feature out .

    Hi Anderton ,

You were right in your first post , how you explained was correct , ( and the only way to do what I am asking ) the only problem with this way was that when I selected all the clips that needed the END of the start time (???:??:100< this part ) and then went into track view and expanded the time ruler I could bearly see the beginning of the clip and the stretched out time ruler ( together there's not enough room on a 24 inch screen , unless you move the selected clip twice - PITA) i, so far and I am going to head over to features and try explain my request better .

    Thank you
