I'm starting to think my "good luck" with SONAR and other software may have something to do with my religious use of uninterruptible power supplies. I first became aware of this with the ADAT. Mine worked perfectly and a friend of mine was always having problems. When he bought an uninterruptible power supply his ADAT started working perfectly. Hmmm...

Many computer power supplies are rated marginally when you load up your machine with internal drives and RAM. Always use a power supply with more capacity than you think you'll need.

I don't use a UPS since we very rarely lose power. I do have two Line Conditioners (one for the computer, and another for Synths and other hardware. Both have more capacity than needed and keep the line voltage stable and clean. I also have a large whole house transient suppressor on the mains to keep out the real bad stuff.

Thanks for the positive and helpful replies.

I wanted to report back with the eventual outcome, which is: success!!!

1. I went for a clean full windows 10 iso install.  Yes, I know, there are some major issues with it. But, these last few weeks I've become somewhat an expert on making windows 10 act like a super powered windows 7 (had to pay a little, my 8 install was legit, BUT, it was an oem lic. and this is a new mobo/ssd).
2. I now have Sonar running, but I seem to have lost all my optimizations, so it's doing things like hitting processor 1 hard and choppy playback. So I'm going to have to re-do some of the settings. These are not major problems, just some occasional heavy usage times.
3. I now have a local AND CONTINUOUS cloud backup. So this wont happen again. Using acronis.
4. This system is a hot rod, expect cool things.1>!>!>!>!!>!>
5. The only plugins I can't get licenses to work properly for are my ancient PSP wintage warmers, some kontakt libraries, and some free promo plugs I had picked up over the years - Waves one knob pumper comes to mind and some old cakewalk plugs that I liked.

Legacy support may be where W10 rules.   I did not have to ditch any hardware on my system.

Sonar Platinum, W7 Pro 32GB Ram, Intel i7 4790, AsRock Z97 Pro 4,  NVidia 750ti, AP2496

Sonar Platinum, W7 Pro, 16GB Ram, AMD FX 6300, Gigabyte GA 970 -UD3 P, nVidia 9800GT, Guitar Port, Terratec EWX 2496
