Scott's Books

Now that Sonar updates every month, how does that affect Scott's Sonar Power book cycle?  Is this the end?

Picking up where SONAR X3 Power left off, I may do a series of updates in the form of eBooks that cover new features.

So, Scott, you're not writing a new version each month and then starting over......and over and over? LOL
I do have to say, I'm being much more careful with my coffee when I'm looking something up in it!

    Hey Michael,

Ha! Yeah, that would be nice, but I think following that plan would put me in the grave very quickly.

I kind of figured you'd go the "e" route if you did it.  Thanks for the update.

Print isn't dead or totally out of the question, but yeah, I think eBooks would be a better way to go, at least at first.

    Thanks!

I was looking at my stack of Sonar Power books this weekend. It extends from Sonar 4 up to X2. I'd love to see a new one. Maybe it would be based on every year now that the classic cycle is broken. Amazon Kindle has a great service where you can get books in either ebook or physical copies, and it isn't that expensive. I've been turned down three times trying to get my manuals printed because the shops were freaking out about copyright. I love books and have quite a large collection. I'd pay for a new copy of Sonar Power : Platinum 2016.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll keep that in mind. Thanks so much for all the support as well. I still have all my copies too.

Although I like the monthly updates, the biggest drawback for me has been the lack of a new Sonar Power book. Scott's descriptions and explanations tend to be clearer and more helpful than the manual or help files. The books have always been the first place I check when I need to understand learn how to use a particular feature. Also, there's just no substitute for a hard copy book, for me at least.

I wonder if it would be possible to come out with something like Sonar Power 2016, as suggested by Resonant Serpent, followed each year with an addendum that covers only the features added during the subsequent year.

My 2 Cents:  I've used Cakewalk/Sonar from Windows 3.5 days up through Platinum, but I have never learned or used all of its features.  As I use Platinum more and more, I find its time to start trying out the stuff I never used before.  My first reference is Scott's "X3 Power" book on Kindle.  It covers most of the basic stuff that (for now at least) is still the meat and potatoes of Platinum.  And it's easy, searchable and always at hand.

+2 for Scott's books and +3 for anything he publishes to update info on the newest Platinum features.  Its worth the money to me.

    Hi Scott,

I just want to say that I am a big fan of your Cakewalk/Sonar power series of books. I still suck at recording, but I generally suck less and in more creative ways had you not had such a positive influence on my musical endeavors! :) (That is fully meant as a compliment!).

Seriously, thank you for taking the time to make Sonar (and CW before it) easier to figure out, especially in a time before Youtube. I always looked forward to getting the next one and reading it, then referencing back when needed.

    Best Regards!

Sonar...sorry... SONAR Platinum, HP Envy PC I5 2.7Ghz, Focusrite Scarlett 18i20, Behringer X Touch, Lots of strats, Marshalls, and Fender Twins!
Just here to learn and share ideas about music and find lots of tricks to make me sound better than I actually am.

Thanks Colin and Michael! That's true. There are still quite a number of features that haven't changed from X3, especially since the book also covers effects and synths, etc.
