Recording Problem

I have Music Creator 6.
I recorded my voice OK. It played back OK.
A few days later, I opened a new file, inserted an audio track, armed it, the red light came on, hit the Record button, and nothing. No red light on the Record button, no movement of any sort.
The Input is None, the output is Master.
I checked the microphone with MS Troubleshoot Recording Audio, and it's fine.
I'm doing something stupid, but I don't know what.
Any suggestions.

The INPUT needs to be set to select your input device (microphone) so that the track has something to record from.

    Thanks for the advice.
When I get the Input menu it has three choices:
         None
         Selected Track Input Series
         Selected Track Input
Now when I run the MS Find and Fix Audio Problems, it states it cannot fix the problem.
    I suspect I need a new microphone.
    Thanks again.

The input device (in this case I guess it is a USB microphone) needs to be plugged in and available before MC is started. The setup is probably similar to the integrated audio chip in the PC. Here are the instructions for setting up MC6 with the onboard audio chip http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/Audio-Hardware-Setup-Guide?productId=CWMC600&audioDeviceId=135. If the microphone as an ASIO driver, change the driver mode from MME to ASIO.

Microphone plugged in and turned on.
MME, speakers and microphone listed. Click Apply. no OK comes up.
Went through Edit, Preferences, etc. again. Click OK.
Arm the track, click  Record, speak into microphone, no wave form.
The Now Time line moves, however, which it did not do before.
    Any further thoughts?

The track input will need to be set to the microphone to record from that device

Please list exactly what you are using for an audio interface. If you're plugging a microphone directly into the mic input jack on your computer, it will be the onboard sound card.

Assuming MC is the same as Sonar, check your Preferences settings:

Under "Audio -> Devices" make sure your device is listed and checked
Under "Audio -> Driver Settings" make sure Record Timing Master shows the same device.

If it is an outboard device (USB, etc.), it will need to be ON before MC is launched.
