EWQL Play Installed. Where is the VST file?

Alright, I've got East West Symphonic Orchestra installed as well as the East West Symphonic Choirs installed.  I chose the default file locations suggested in the installation.  Now I'm trying to get the Play VST file to be included in SONAR's Plug In Manager so it can be chosen as a Synth in the list of instruments.  I cannot find it.  I must be missing something simple here...it has to be on the C: Drive, right?

I think mine was filed under Steinberg.  Look for the Dll  probably named play.dll or something like that.  It is there on your C drive.

Does the folder c:\vstplugins exist. If you chose a default install, that's where the VST files are located.  I suspect that folder needs to be included in the VST scan.

Note: I do not own this VST, I just read the user guide

Thank you my friends for all of your input, but still no file.  By the way, I can open and use the Play application in standalone mode so I know the installation was successful.  I just sent an email to EWQL support for help.  This one is a mystery.

Hello there RobWS you can search for a file named play_VST_x64.dll in your system to locate the file path of your VST installed, another idea is check in the EW Installation Center go to the upper right hamburguer menu below your account name, click on it and go to the option "library directories", check the path and go to see if there is anything .dll related.

Hope this helps.

My EWSO installation relies on ILok in order to run.

Yes, an iLok is required for mine

EastWest support said the Play Vst file will be found in either "Program Files\Vstplugins" or "Program Files\Common Files\Vst2".  For those of you who have respondedso far, is that where you find yours?  No such luck for me.  Just for your information, this is what I did find in my computer:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\Shared Components
WordBuilderPlayVSTx64.dll  05/24/2012  3:48PM  7,659 KB

C:\Program Files\EastWest\WordBuilderPLAY
WordBuilderPlayMFXx64.dll  05/24/2012  3:48PM  6,331 KB
WordBuilderPlayVSTx64.dll  05/24/2012  3:48PM  7,659 KB

C:\Program Files (x86)\EastWest\WordBuilderPLAY
WordBuilderPlayMFXx64.dll  05/24/2012  3:48PM  6,331 KB
WordBuilderPlayVSTx64.dll  05/24/2012  3:48PM  7,659 KB

Sonar did detect the WordBuilderPlayMFXx64.dll file.  It's under the Midi tab in the browser.

So this brings up two questions.  Is WordBuilderPlayVSTx64.dll in your Sonar browser?  It is not in mine, just the MFX file.  And, what is the exact name of the Play VST file?  Thanks for everyone's help up to this point.  I've also continued my support thread with EastWest.

None of those locations are part of the default scan path.

An MFX location is read directly from the registry so the VST scanner is not an issue for them.

It appears to me "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Steinberg\Shared Components" may need to be added to the VST scan path in SONAR Preferences.

Personally, I prefer to install dlls into my existing scan path rather than add a bunch of vendor default locations but either method should work.

The name of the PLAY Engine file is play_VST_x64.dll mine was in C:\Program Files\EastWest try to reinstall the library because that's a really weird behaviour.

I took a 90 degree turn with this whole issue.  I finally decided to upgrade to Windows 10 with a clean install.  The two EastWest applications are being installed last which is what I am in the midst of.  Hopefully, the end result will work out right.  Thanks to all of you who responded to this post.  The Cakewalk forum is an excellent place to check out the latest issues.

Well, mine ended up at: c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins\play_VST_x64.dll

I would suggest you locate it in your system, and then just make sure that path is included in the search path in Sonar's Plugin Manager, and all should be golden.

Not to be snarky but I suggest you read each page of the install dialog boxes and (ahem) understand what they are saying (like file locations) instead of just blindly taking the defaults.

When something like this happens just run the installer again and look at where it is going to install...then navigate to that location and look for the files...I think I remember mine being installed in Programs/EW/Common or similar.

If the files are there add the path to the VST search, if not then you've installed them in a non-default location.

Re: EWQL Play Installed. Where is the VST file? 2018/03/30 14:32:56 (permalink)
I bought the Eastwest Hollywood Strings Gold library that included the Play 5.0.5 sample player. The problem is that my DAW program (Cakewalk Sonar 8.5) does not recognize and find the dll file, and the Play 5.0.5 does not appear on the vst list.

I installed the dll file in the same folder where I installed my other vst. I also re-scan vst-list in Sonar but the file can not be found. Then I uninstalled the 5.0.5 version and installed PLAY v4.3.3 version and re-scan the vst-list.
Now Play 4.3.3 appears on the vst-list but when i try to start it in DAW, Sonar crash to desktop and message "fatal error has occured in plugin play_VST". Is there any solution to how to fix this? I have not had any such problems with other vst's. I have Win 8.1 64 bit.

This is the easiest way to find it.

This is one of the pitfalls of holding on to "Legacy" DAW's.  They don't support the most
recent plugin formats, and, consequently, will crap out when trying to load them
