IZOTOPE VOCAL SYNTH $149 special

Ready for a truly transformative vocal experience?
While Nectar gives you clean and pristine vocals, VocalSynth lets you totally re-imagine the sound of your voice. Four vocal re-synthesis engines let you create electronic vocal textures, computerized harmonies, vocoder and talkbox effects, and everything in between.
  • Add depth and impact to your chorus or bridge. Build your backing choir from just a lead vocal to fill out a composition.
  • Ditch the hardware (and the drool). VocalSynth eliminates the complexity (and PVC tubes) of operating traditional vocoders and talkboxes.
  • Quickly find the sounds you love or experiment and uncover a wild vocal treatment you never even knew you wanted!

This is one of the issues with two separate forums...

This was posted in the Deals forum a day or so ago...

    http://forum.cakewalk.com/Izotope-VocalSynth-m3417914.aspx

and I see you were the last person to comment...

There needs to be some guidelines...I have my own personal ones...

If it is NEW and on "Intro Offer" or "Sale" it goes in DEALS...
    Otherwise it goes here..

Although I do acknowledge that many are trying to "avoid" the deals
    forum...so understand the "why"...

Good reasoning, Larry. If it's just "new" without intro pricing, it's going into Software.

Be advised that VocalSynth "does not specifically support Sonar."

I purchased VocalSynth and was not able to get the midi function to work where you have audio on a track with Vocalsynth as an effect. You are supposed to open a midi track and direct the output to Vocalsynth which is not easy to do in Sonar. I contacted Izotope and received a quick reply with the quoted text above. They did give me directions to attempt this link up, but it did not work as they suggested it might. However, I mucked around and managed to get the function to work, but I am not too happy with the output from this procedure.

In general, I did want to use it to create some unusual backing for my lead vocal tracks and it did work well for that purpose.

I do not believe the above post is true...

These problems were fixed for such programs as kirnu/catanya and others that operate this way and it is very easy to do in Platinim...maybe you're using an old version of sonar; i don't know if the fixed go back that far.  Additionally, VST3 allows you to select instrument or effect right in the vst3 pull down menu, which is even easier.  I think I said this right...

Second... you can do a 30 day trial... you didn't do this first?  Really?

Lastly... This forum is the first place i go for help...and i always ask questions before blaming the tool...

I think I'll trial it tonight... then find a new level of "eloquence" if I'm correct!

OOOOPS!  can't wait...gonna test it immediately

Edited response: ok guys...sorry. I'm gonna rephrase things...

There are moaners and groaners and humans who ask questions and try to learn and find answers. There are those that are quick to blame the tool without asking how to use it.

This forum here is extremely helpful in educating and providing solutions. Generally it is user error that is the problem and thus humility is often the best way to present a problem... Unfortunately in today's society too many cast blame when ignorance or lack of understanding is the problem.

This is a case in point.
I just downloaded the demo and it works FINE in platinum.  NO PROBLEMS AT ALL... took 5 minutes to download and install, brought up my latest song, scanned for it, added it to the plugin folder I desired, added it to the FX bin, enabled it as "synth", added a midi track and sent the track to Vocal Synth...

All in probably less time than it took Lud above to write his message.

BTW, it is pretty cool... don't really know what I'd use it for much, although....  obviously they took their work on nectar and went beyond... lots of cool presets.

OK, Back to seeing if I'll be dumb enough to be gassed into buying it!

I do not believe the above post is true...  (end of story?  I'm correct)

These problems were fixed for such programs as kirnu/catanya and others that operate this way and it is very easy to do in Platinum... your comment is likely BUNK or you're using an old version of sonar.  Additionally, VST3 allows you to select instrument or effect right in the vst3 pull down menu, which is even easier.  I think I said this right...

Second... you can do a 30 day trial... you didn't do this first?  Really?  Sounds a bit trollish to me.

OOOOPS!  can't wait...gonna test it immediately

This is beyond rude. You know nothing about the plugin, since at the time you had not downloaded it, and you are claiming either my post if false or I have an old version of Sonar. Firstly I have Platinum and secondly Izotope has responded that they can't guarantee that VocalSynth specifically for Sonar like they can for several other DAWs.

It is more likely that you are a plant pushing this product.

I have everything working, but this is because I have had a great deal of experience with Sonar for many years. It is true it installed quickly and works well in most aspects, but using the midi setting is not as simple as you imply and I think many Sonar users will be scratching there heads for a while unless you would like list the steps that are required.

The fact is VocalSynth has to be placed in the Effects bin and yet must be changed to a "simple instrument" by changing its definition which is not set at installation. Secondly, even then it will not work unless when it opens you don't then go to the top of the synth page, pull down the vst3 pull down and check the entry to enable midi input.

In the spirit of being helpful to the Sonar community, I am enclosing the Izotope response which I am pleased to say was immediate even though it was the weekend

    Thank you for reaching out!
Please note that VocalSynth does not specifically support Sonar.
That said, you can try these steps:
    1. After installing VocalSynth, go to Cakewalk’s Plug-in Manager.
    2. Next, find VocalSynth in the directory of VST plug-ins that are displayed and select it in the list. (if you don’t find it here, you may need to hit Scan VST Plug- ins first.
    3. Under the “VST Configuration” controls, press the “Plug-in Properties” button.
    4. Make sure the “Configure as Synth” checkbox is selected.
    5. Right click on the Effects Bin for the track or bus you want to add harmonies to.
    6. Go to the Soft Synths category and select VocalSynth. If VocalSynth is not present, restart Sonar.
    7. Engage the MIDI Control button along the top of the VocalSynth interface.
    8. Create a new MIDI track in your SONAR project.
    9. On the MIDI track’s output dropdown menu, choose “iZotope VocalSynth” from the list.
    10. Playback audio, and use your MIDI Input Device to play and record harmonies.

    Thanks!
    Sincerely,
    Joel

Having a bad day, Dana? You're usually such a mellow fellow. "Lazy trolling idiot" ain't your usual style.

It's certainly not the first time someone has incorrectly claimed "bug!" because they've had problems getting a plugin to work. But discussing such things without rancor is more likely to result in a helpful resolution.

It's true that historically, SONAR has not made it particularly easy to use MIDI-driven audio effects. It's also true that vendors don't always verify that their products are specifically SONAR-compatible, usually assuming that if they work in Cubase and Reaper that they'll work in any VST-compliant host. That's why we demo products and solicit others' experiences before making purchases. Although I'd be surprised if any iZotope product was truly incompatible with SONAR, given the company's excellent track record. Some of its employees are even Cakewalk veterans.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Beginning with X3 there is no need to configure an effect as a synth. The VST2/3 drop down in the VST standard header is sufficient to "Enable MIDI Input." While I have not bothered to download and test Vocal Synth other MIDI driven effects from iZotope such as Stutter Edit work just fine using the VST2/3 drop down instead of messing with the plug-in configuration. I would be surprised if Vocal Synth is any different.

Apologize for the rancor. Spent all day dealing with humans that blame/complain rather than seek solutions.

Scook is correct...it is even easier than how izotope explained it...using the VST pulldown menu to enable midi input

As soon as you change this it will appear in your midi track's output section as an option.

It plays the notes you trigger from your midi keyboard perfectly.

OK, so for those of you who want to try this in side chain mode, it is pretty simple...  for the second audio track set it up to "send" to the Vocal Synth (add a send and assign it accordingly) In this way you are able to use whatever type of wave combinations you want... using a choir works pretty well... can do all sorts of wacko things by choosing different synth/arps/whatever...and combining with presets...This is about the best feature of the unit, in terms of "uniqueness".... as you have an unlimited number of sounds you can modulate with your voice... or say a guitar modulating another guitar or synth...

    trippy....
been working on a new climate song dealing with the 125 degree high humidity horror going on in India... and modulating "hey man, I got a problem... I can't breathe, I can't breathe" with a Guru Omnisphere OMG rhythmic multi got something totally usable and different than I have every heard.

GAS is gonna get me on this one...
