On my office computer running win7 I am still using Norton Backup as my antiviral program.  When I updated the new Studio One 3 download, Norton immediately rejected one of the Presonus update components (named ccltext.dll).  i googled this and found it was a common issue.  So I turned Norton off to reinstalled Studio One update and all went well; however, when I turned Norton back on, it immediately removed/quarantined the filed it did not like.  So I had to un-quarantine the file.  It now works, but this was the first time I every had this problem with Studio One updates.  I have not yet installed the update on my studio computer running Win10 which uses Windows Defender, but hopefully it will not be as difficult as Norton is on this update.

[EDIT:  I just installed Studio One 3 and its update on my studio running Win10 and Defender.  There was no trouble at all installing it.  I guess the trouble is with Norton Backup.  Anyway, all is well on both computers now.]

I think you can teach norton to ignore a specific file...first, you show him the hammer and tell him nicely

FWIW...

I got rid of Norton back in the dialup days. Sucked then. Gotta believe it still sucks. Windows Defender on Win10 has finally gotten "good enough" that I did not renew my Kaspersky subscription. I used Trend Micro for several years after Norton, and then Kaspersky for the last 5 years or so.

When I uninstalled Kaspersky and Diskeeper, my Windows performance improved noticeably.

My Bitdefender Sub is about to expire...and I'm going to start using Windows Defender...
The price is right and it will do the job...

In a high-performance application, you don't want A/V software with a heavy foot-print.
I prefer no A/V software on my DAW.
If you're not sending/receiving Email and you're not doing general-purpose surfing, you're fine without A/V.
Create and maintain an up-to-date backup image file (should do this anyway)... and you're completely safe.

Best Regards,

Just found these handy-dandy SSDs on a stick. Should be perfect for the task.

After what happened to Dave the Bitflipper, I'm going to get a couple, and rotate them through my safe deposit box at the bank.

The only break I take from applying updates is to do software backups.

Thanks for the info.  I actually have three computers.  The only one with Norton on it is my office computer which is old and has Win7; it is the one that is used to do emails and web downloads.  I install DAW software on it just for when I am in the office and have a music moment and want to try it out without going down to the basement studio.  The other two computers are new (6months old) and run Win10; they are my studio DAW dedicated computers. Since WIN10 comes with Windows Defender, I have been using it and it has not given me any trouble; however, I actually keep both of these two discounted from the internet by using a ethernet coupler that is easy to reach and disconnect/reconnect.  I know I could just discounted by using the little network symbol on the computers in the lower right corner, but having the ethernet coupler makes sure that it is physically disconnected from the router.

The Studio One update included the ccltext.dll file which Norton rejected; Windows Defender had no issues with it.  The file is necessary for Studio One to function.  Without it, Studio One would stop loading and gave a warning that it is stopping the start up.
